Back and better than ever!
With Millions of streams on his music, Jeffrey James is quickly becoming a name to know in mainstream music. Yesterday he released a new single titled ‘The Real Me’. And we honestly think that this is his best song yet!
We had the amazing honor of talking with Jeffrey about his dog Kipo, advice for aspiring artists, and more!
Can you believe it’s already been a year since we’ve talked last? How have you been!
J: “I’ve been well, thank you for asking and thank you for having me back! I’m pumped to share my new music with you!”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘The Real Me’.
J: ‘The Real Me’ is the first song that I wrote on my own in a long time. I love co-writing and collaborating on songs, but I was in an emo, sitting-alone-in-my-feelings kinda mood, when I got the idea for this song. I then brought the song to producer David Burris, and gave him a playlist of some of my favorite 90’s alt/rock vibes that I had been obsessing over. I told him I wanted the track to sound like a modern pop ballad that made love to the band, Oasis. He absolutely nailed the assignment!
If you had to choose, what is your favorite song you have released so far, and why?
J: “Nooooo! Don’t make me choose between my children!! Honestly, any song I release holds a specific place in my heart. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but it’s true. “The Real Me” is extremely special to me because it’s the most personal writing I’ve done in a song in a while. And I love a good ballad.”
What do you enjoy the most when it comes to performing live?
J: “There’s a transcendent moment that can happen when you’re in the middle of performing a song and you feel fully connected and tuned in to the other musicians on stage as well as the audience. It’s like you are all sharing the same mind and are moving and breathing as one. There’s nothing else quite like that feeling!”
What is your best piece of advice for young artists who want to pursue a career in music?
J: “Keep practicing and creating. You can always get better. Your next song may be the best thing you’ve created. But the NEXT next one might be even better.”
Very important question: How is your frenchie Kipo doing?
J: “Kipo is doing so great! He’s living his best French Bulldog life; eating and sleeping and howling at me when he wants me to stop singing so we can play. I maaayyyyy have written a theme song for us: https://tinyurl.com/myfrenchieandme.”
