Dorian Giordano Talks About On-Screen Representation And Role In Disney+’s ‘World’s Best’

An actor we know you are going to love!

Even though he has a professional sports background, we’re starting to think that Dorian Giordano was actually made for the entertainment industry. He recently starred in the Disney+ original movie ‘World’s Best’.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Dorian about his favorite musical, upcoming projects, and more!

What was it like to segue from your BMX career to now pursue acting?

D: “It’s really cool because it’s what lead me into acting. Growing up I had Lyme disease and autoimmune encephalitis. I had developed major nerve damage in my legs and was losing my ability to walk so my occupational therapist suggested biking to help rehabilitate the brain body connection. My parents found
Joyride150 an indoor bike park and got me on a BMX and I went from not walking to winning the world championship in Chengdu China when I was 14. It was pretty crazy. Then I booked a commercial for Nerf as a BMX stunting kid and afterwards the producer told my mom I should get an agent and now I’m in a
Disney movie. It’s so crazy how things work out!!”

Tell us more about your role in Disney+’s ‘World’s Best’.

D: “I play Gabe he’s an introspective older high school kid who isn’t a huge fan of school and he befriends Prem who is the math genius and is attending high school at 12. Gabe helps support Prem and shares his wisdom since he is older, and both have had struggles in their lives. He helps Prem believe that anything is possible and to go out and achieve his dreams. He’s kind of like Prem’s hype man. In real life, me and Manny are opposites but at the same time really similar with some stuff too, so we had a really cool relationship on set. He’s such an awesome talented star.”

Do you think you have anything in common with your character Gabe? Are you a fan of hip-hop?

D: “Gabe is kind of chill about life and doesn’t overreact about too much stuff because he’s been through a lot of challenges since he was young, so I guess I’m similar in that aspect although I’m probably more hyper than Gabe in real life since I’m a huge adrenaline junkie. But I’m really supportive of my friends while they are pursuing all of their endeavours, so I guess in that aspect we are also the same. I’m a huge, huge fan of hip-hop and rap. That’s most of my Spotify playlist!!”

This film is a musical comedy! If you had to choose, what is your current favorite musical?

D: “Well I’m going to have to go with “Hamilton” since Thomas Kail is one of the Producers of World’s Best AND Hamilton so yeah that’s definitely my answer.”

Now that you are a part of the Disney family, what are some of your favorite Disney TV shows/movies? Any Disney+ recommendations?

D: “Wow that’s a tough one there are so many Disney movies/shows!! I’m going to have to go with Avengers although Star Wars is up there too. I grew up watching Disney’s ‘Jessie’ and ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’. Actually being part of the Disney Family is so incredible. It’s a pinch me moment for sure!”

The movie is so diverse! How important do you think the representation of other ethnicities is in the entertainment industry?

D: “Diversity is really important. Representation is really important. World’s Best did an amazing job of representing so many ethnicities. I’m really proud to be part of that. Having a South Asian cast lead the film is so awesome. I’m from a mixed background Indigenous/Latino and I am also neurodivergent. Growing up on the spectrum and with ADHD was something you kind of kept quiet and did not talk about and now I’m seeing neurodivergent representation on screen and that’s pretty amazing. Everyone needs to be able to connect and see themselves represented.”

We hear that you have another movie in the works! Without giving too much away, can
you tease what fans can expect?

D: “Well, you’ll be able to see me in Netflix’s upcoming ‘Avatar The Last Airbender’ as well as Sony Pictures / Eli Roth’s ‘Thanksgiving’. Tomorrow I’m flying out to Montana to film an amazing movie. It is such an incredible coming of age story. I’m really really excited about this one.”

Where can we follow your amazing journey?

D: “You can follow me on Instagram @doriangiordano_. Thanks so much- I loved this interview.”
