Rising Actress Tedra Rogers Talks About Her Upcoming Y2K Role In ‘Cruel Summer’ Season 2

We can’t wait for her new role!

Tedra is not a stranger to our TV screens. She has starred in some of our favorite shows, from CW’s ‘Supergirl’ to Netflix’s ‘Firefly Lane’. Now, she’s embarking on a new role in Season 2 of the popular series ‘Cruel Summer’.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Tedra about filming ‘Firely Lane’, her Netflix recommendations, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in acting?

T: “The first time I realized I wanted to pursue a career in acting was surprisingly far into my acting journey. Originally I had always planned on being a professional dancer, but after I was in a car accident and couldn’t recover, I started taking acting classes. I had been taking classes for about a year and doing smaller local auditions here and there. Then I landed a supporting lead role in the feature film Come True (IFC Films). It was through the process of shooting “Come True” that I realized I really did love the process of film making and wanted to pursue it seriously as a career path.”

We are so excited for Season 2 of ‘Cruel Summer’! Can you tell us more about your
character?

T: “My character Amy is definitely a quintessential Y2K girly. Originally when I accepted the role I thought Amy was going to be a stereotypical mean-girl-90s-blonde but “Cruel Summer” has such rich storytelling, and Amy isn’t a stereotype at all. She’s fun loving, a little boy crazy, and cares really deeply about her friends. She also can be trusted to always try to keep things fun, which I love about her.

Do you think you have anything in common with your character Amy?

T: “Yes! We both love clothes! One of my favorite parts about playing Amy was all the outfits she gets to wear. My costume fittings were hours and hours long, but I think the outfits that we settled on are full of Y2K flair. I hope fans have fun picking out all the pop culture references in what she wears, I know there’s one specific look I’m dying for everyone to see! Other than her fashion sense I think I really see myself in her loyalty and how much she loves her friends, through thick and thin.”

Were you a fan of the first season? Who was your personal favorite character?

T: “I’m going to be honest, the first season didn’t air in Canada! Because the new season is an anthology with a whole new set of characters and story, I didn’t want to get swept away in a story that wasn’t our own. That being said, while I’m in LA for premiere week I’m planning on settling down and binging all of it before our new season comes out, no spoilers ;).”

What can fans expect from Season 2?

T: “Being an anthology series, fans can expect a brand new cast and a brand new mystery this season. There’s so many twists and turns in the story, there is also so much 90s & Y2K nostalgia. Seeing all the characters grow and change through the season is so much fun and I can’t wait for fans to see it.”

You also recently starred in ‘Firefly Lane’! What was that experience like?

T: “Shooting “Firefly Lane” was similarly delightful, in that I was part of the timeline set in the 70s
and the costumes were all vintage! The cast and crew are lovely and I’m lucky to have a number of friends that are part of the cast. However, my character on “Firefly Lane” was a huge drama queen filled with crocodile tears and couldn’t have been more different than Amy.”

Now that you are a part of the Netflix family, what are some of your favorite Netflix movies/TV
shows? Any recommendations?

T: “Yes! I’ve just finished watching the new season of “Sweet Tooth” and it’s so moving and the makeup and special effects are so fun. And if anyone is craving a comedic palate cleanser after all the drama in this season of “Cruel Summer” folks should check out “Fakes”. It’s campy, also has fantastic costumes, and features some of my closest friends in the cast!”

Where can we follow your amazing journey?

T: “Come hang out with me on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter @tedrarogers I have sooooo many
behind the scenes pictures and videos from shooting this season of “Cruel Summer” and I can’t
wait to share them with everyone!”
