EXCLUSIVE: Actor Andre Colquhoun On “Star Trek” Role, “Short Term”, And Creating

This Candian actor is a true visionary!

Andre Colquhoun is truly a jack-of-all-trades. From starring in our favorite shows to filmmaking, we are always excited to see what he does next. He recently announced that he is about to co-star in the Paramount + Original TV Show “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”.

We had the amazing opportunity of talking with Andre on “The Expanse”, childhood background, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to become an actor?

A: “Ever since I was little, I was always an artsy kid. Watching several movies a day, reenacting movie scenes with my action figures, creating a Superman costume, and running around the house in it yelling “I’m the new black Superman, hooray!” All sorts of craziness. Then in eighth grade, my music teacher saw something in me and told me to audition for the lead in the school musical. I was hesitant at first, but I eventually auditioned. I got the part and the rest was history. I fell in love. I took the arts in high school, college, and continued on the acting train to this day. I’d say the real spark happened in twelfth grade. Beforehand, I never really knew acting could be a potential career avenue, but after doing some heavy thinking and investigating, I knew I could do it, and do it with greatness.”

Talk to me about your character on ‘The Expanse’. What did you like most about playing the character?

A: My character “Ceres Medic” is a critical part of the story, aiding the character Josep, played by actor Samer Salem. During a tragic accident in the previous episode (Season 6 Episode 4), Josep loses his arm, leaving him with crippling pain and a mechanism to help regrow his arm. In (Season 6 Episode 5) my character provides Josep and his crew with sufficient information on the best way to treat the limb. The thing I loved the most about playing this character was that I was able to learn and perform a Belter accent. It was exhilarating. I’m a Canadian who speaks Canadian so it was fun diving into this. I felt like a different person.”

Who would you say you make your music for/its intended audience?

A: “I make my music for me. I always say, if I love my music and it resonates with me deeply, others will love it too and will be able to relate with it deeply. That’s the beauty of music. It’s universal.”

How did you settle on the idea to create a visual album for ‘Short Term’?

A: “I actually never wanted to create a visual piece for the “Short Term” EP at first. I just wanted to create an EP and have it speak for itself. I only chose to create a visual piece because the idea for all four songs kept plaguing my mind and I couldn’t just ignore it. The idea honestly came to me randomly and I’m glad I put it into action.”

Do you have a favorite song from the album and why?

A: “All the songs on the “Short Term” EP are my favorite. They all connect into one big piece and are very meaningful to me.”

What artists would you like to work with in the future? Also, are there any shows or movies that you would like to take part in?

A: “I would like to work with the right fit. If it’s right, it’ll be dynamic. I don’t care how famous or how rich you are, fame and money doesn’t phase me one bit. You need to be talented, serious, and love the craft. That’s all I care about. As for any shows or movies that I would like to be a part of, it needs to be the right fit. If it’s right, it’ll be dynamic. Union Independent projects or union blockbusters that are entertaining with a great message.”

Can you tell us about your upcoming role inStar Trek: Strange New Worlds”?

A: “I’m happy to say that I’ll be playing the role of “Probasco” and that the series will officially premiere May 5th, 2022 on Paramount Plus. But that’s all I can say. Top secret.”

Can we expect more music from you in the future?

A: “Definitely. I’m always working on music whether humming gibberish on my phone or creating in the studio.”
