Lindsay Adamson Talks Maren Morris, Inspiration, and “You Got Me?”

Lindsay Adamson, a Nashiville country singer and songwriter, recently released her highly-anticipated single, Country Music Feels Like Home. Lindsay is an up and coming country artist, who wants to spread her love of singing and songwriting with everyone!

We were given the amazing opportunity to ask Lindsay some questions!

What inspired you to write and perform your own songs?

“I’ve been a performer since I was old enough to walk and talk! I remember performing concerts for my family when I was only about 5 years old.  I had this play microphone, and it had a foot pedal that you could press as you were singing. It also made clapping and cheering sounds coming from a crowd.  I loved it. It’s honestly the most natural thing in the world to me to make music.”

“Songwriting came just as naturally.  Around the age of 8, I started, and I would just sit in my room writing poems and songs. I would always be excited to show my sister what I had written. It all developed from there!”

Why did you pursue creating music for the Country genre?

“When I was younger, I tried out a bunch of different genres. I was finding myself and growing into the woman I am today. Country music is just what feels the most like home to me. It is not because I grew up in the country or lived anything remotely similar to the typical country life you hear about because I didn’t.” I just feel the most at home, in myself, when I’m writing and performing country music. I love the stories that get told through the deep meaningful songs that come out of the country genre.  It is a genre that I am always listening to. Naturally, my heart gravitated towards country music and moving to Nashville became a dream of mine.”

What was the purpose behind your amazing song “You Got Me?”

“One day, I found myself obsessed with a song a favorite artist of mine did a cover of. I loved it so much that I must have listened to it about 100 times over the span of a weekend.  The fact that I could become so obsessed with something I loved is what gave me the inspiration to write this song. Falling in love does something to us that nothing else in the world can do.  It can make us forget that the rest of the world exists.  It can make us do nutty things. It lights us up, and ignites us. It can turn a perfectly sane person, just a little bit crazy!”

Have you ever faced imposter syndrome as an artist?

“Definitely! I think we all have at some point in our lives.  There are many crazy-talented artists out there to compare yourself to, especially in Nashville. If this is your dream, it is your job to believe that above all odds, you’re going to make it. You have something so special that the world is dying to witness. I have found that the best way to get over the imposter syndrome is to talk to yourself. Tell yourself all the things you want to believe until you’ve said them so many times, that in the end you do believe in them! When all the chatter in our heads quiets down, that is when we have the space for the creative magic to flow and to make amazing soulful music that makes people feel.”

Would you like to explore more genres of music and if so, which ones?

“I am completely in love with country, and I plan to mostly stick to recording country music. However, it is always fun to be playful and meld different sounds and inspirations together into the genre. You will definitely find inspirations of pop & rock in my music!”

What artists do you look up to for inspiration?

“There are so many powerful female artists in country music that have paved the way. One artist I really admire is Maren Morris.  I just love how authentic she is and how true she  stayed to her sound. She openly expresses her beliefs through her music. She is trying to leave this world a better place than she found it, and I admire the heck out of that. Another artist I look up to so much is Carrie Underwood. When you see her on stage she is the most confident, powerful person you have ever seen perform. She commands the stage like no other and it leaves you in awe!”

As an artist, what do you hope to accomplish in the upcoming year?

I plan to write and record new music this year, which makes my heart so happy! My next single ‘He Ain’t Worth the Makeup’ comes out February 26th, and I am so excited to share it with the world! This is a really fun one that you just can’t help singing along to. I see this as the year to really plant my flag and build my presence in the country music scene. My first year of releasing music in 2020 built a lot of momentum, and I really plan to work hard on building off of that. I’ve already started a number of exciting projects, and I don’t plan on slowing down!”
