Imagine sitting at home, waiting for your spouse to come from work, but they don’t. Imagine receiving word that something awful has happened to them, but where and what exactly happened is unknown. Imagine being consumed with the fact that you might have seen your daddy for the last time that morning. These heart wrenching and unthinkable scenarios come to life in the upcoming feature film, The Elevator, starring Oscar-Nominated actor Eric Roberts (Runaway Train) and directed by Mukesh Modi and Jack Cook.
The Elevator is inspired by true events and follows Roman Juniper, a husband and father of three who is forced to go to work on the day of his daughter’s birthday. He plans to return home for her birthday party, but before he can make it home, things take a turn for the worst. Back at home, his wife and kids are setting up for the party as they begin to wonder where Roman is since it’s well past the time he originally said he would be home. Later, a man matching Roman’s physical description is reported as the victim of a deadly accident. In a panic, the family begins a hunt to figure out if the man is Roman, where he may be, and what happened.
“Do not keep anything pending and take care of your family first.”
- Mukesh Modi (Co-Director of The Elevator)
Even though the film is dark and saddening, the co-director, Modi, is far from any of those things. In fact, he’s quite the opposite. Modi’s career and professional mind lies with filmmaking and the arts, yet his passion lies with helping others and giving back to society.
For the past nine years, Modi has sponsored aid missions to Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan in India that provide free medical aid to those struggling with Glaucoma, a group of eye conditions that can cause blindness, among other illnesses and conditions. Through his sponsorship, humanitarian aid workers, doctors, and others are able to set up treatment camps that offer cataract surgery as well as general medical aid to those who struggle with the mentioned conditions and illnesses. During these trips, he personally flies to the aid camps and meets the patients directly.
If that was not enough, he also donates garments to a charity organization in the United States as well as other countries.
Even though Modi has done numerous lifetimes of generous work, he’s still itching to do more. He next wants to open a school for underprivileged children that would provide them with a free education and a place where they can discover their true potential in life and work towards making their dreams come a reality.
Through his work as a filmmaker and humanitarian, Modi has won numerous awards and accolades:
- Emerging Community Leader at the 3rd International Media Conference hosted by Indo
- American Press Club in Stamford, Connecticut.
- Honored by Indian American Festival in New York
- Honored by Nar Seva Narayan Seva Sansthan for sponsoring 50th Free Medical Camp in India, Rajasthan (Jhunjhunu)
