Edwina Van Kuyk Names Her Personal Favorite Song Off Of Dazzling New EP ‘Feels So Right’

Something about her new EP just ‘Feels So Right’!

Edwina Van Kuyk just released her new project, an EP titled ‘Feels So Right’, which is a masterclass in vulnerable lyrics, beautiful music product, and a voice that you could listen to all day long.

We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Edwina about the Ireland music scene, advice for aspiring female music artists, and more!

Congratulations on your new song ‘Feels So Right’! Can you walk us through its meaning and how it came to be?

E: “Thanks so much! I found myself being so swayed by external opinions on my music. Whether it was a producer who was encouraging me to go a certain route, or a collaborator who didn’t agree with my vision, I realized the only way I was going to be happy with my songs was if I trusted my gut and followed my instinct. Ever since I’ve had this realization, I’ve been so excited about music because I really trust my vision & I feel like I have so much more to share!”

‘Feels So Right’ is not only a single, but the name of your brand-new EP! This might be hard, but if you had to choose your favorite track from the project, which one would it be and why?

E: “Never Not To Know Each Other Again has a special place in my heart. It’s about my friends Neil, Anouk & Flynn. Anouk sadly passed away in June and although we only met last year, her impact has been monumental. The three of them mean so much to me & I’ve never written a song about friendship so it just makes me smile every time I perform it.”

You are an incredible songwriter! Do you have a general songwriting process when you’re trying to create new music?

E: “Aw, thank you so much! I used to be really pedantic about writing all of my songs alone, but now I really have found the beauty in collaborating. I collaborated on this EP with my friend Cian O’Donoghue. When you find someone who you click with musically it’s invaluable. I really feel like I can talk to him about anything so that has made the songwriting process very raw & honest. We also have a lot of fun, which is important!”

What is your best piece of advice to young girls who aspire to pursue a career in music?

E: This is difficult because I do think the music industry is difficult to navigate. I would say, it’s important to find people you trust & build a team. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instinct. And believe in your vision, because nobody else can do what you do the way you do – and that’s what makes it so special!”

How would you personally describe the music scene in Ireland?

E: “For such a small country, there is an immense amount of talent. The live music scene is incredible. There’s always something on & I feel like our culture is steeped in music. It definitely has its pitfalls, but we’re home to some of the best musicians in the world.”

Back in August you played in Nashville! With this being said, are there any other US cities or states that are on your top list to perform in?

E: “Yes! I would absolutely love to tour more of the US. I spend a lot of time in Chicago because my brother and his family live there. It has a great music scene & I would love the opportunity to have a show there. But bucket list wise, I hope to get to Red Rock one day!”
