A versatile music artist that you need to know!
You can’t put Alya in a specific music niche-From pop to R&B, so many incredible influences shine through in her music. Especially her newest single ‘Glitter & Gold’, which might be our favorite song from her yet!
We had the pleasure of speaking with Alya about the importance of diversity in the music industry, working with established producers, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
A: “Music has always been a part of who I am — it’s never been a decision, just the path I was naturally drawn to. With my mum being a singer, I grew up surrounded by it, going to her performances and getting inspired by other local artists who encouraged my passion. I’ve never imagined doing anything else.“
Can you tell us about your incredible new single ‘Glitter & Gold’ and how it came to be?
A: “Glitter & Gold” is about self-love and making choices that reflect your worth. I believe it’s important to love yourself first, so you don’t end up settling for less than you deserve. The song also touches on how things or people can seem perfect at first, but over time, their true colors come out. I wanted to create something fun and upbeat that people can dance to, but still deliver a message — reminding everyone that not everything shiny is worth holding onto, and it’s okay to choose yourself when something doesn’t feel right.”
What is your best piece of advice for listeners who want to work on practicing their self-love?
A: “It’s tough not to compare yourself to others, especially with the influence of social media these days. However, remember that you are unique in your own way. Embracing your uniqueness can boost your confidence, allowing you to love yourself more. This self-love helps others understand and appreciate you for who you truly are. Your uniqueness is your light, making you stand out positively.“
If you had to choose, what has been your favorite song you’ve released and why?
A: “It would definitely be “Glitter & Gold” because now I’m older and have a clearer vision of the artist I want to become. I’ve gained experience and knowledge from trying different things. This growth shines through in the song, and it’s just such a vibe you can dance to, which makes me love it even more!”
How important do you think diversity is in the music industry?
A: “Diversity is super important in the music industry. It brings fresh sounds, stories, and perspectives that make the whole scene more creative and inclusive. When artists from different backgrounds share their unique vibes, it pushes boundaries and keeps music evolving. Plus, it helps listeners feel seen and understood, as they can relate to and connect with the music on a deeper level. Overall, diversity makes the music industry richer and more vibrant for everyone.“
We love watching videos of you performing! What do you enjoy the most when performing live?
A: “I absolutely love performing live, it’s one of my favorite parts of being an artist. I get to vibe with the crowd and feel their energy, which pushes me to perform even better. Connecting with my audience face-to-face, rather than just through a screen, feels really special. Plus, I love to dance and incorporating that into my performances adds another layer to who I am as an artist.“
What has been the most validating moment of your career thus far?
A: “I’d say that working with established producers who have collaborated with some of the biggest artists out there has been incredible. Their support and belief in my music mean a lot to me. I really respect their opinions, their positive feedback and faith in my vision have been incredibly encouraging and motivating.“
