An absolute natural!
From ‘Dare Me’ to ‘Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce’, Alison has quickly been making a name for herself as an actress. And now, she’s gearing up to star in the upcoming Paramount+ series ‘School Spirits’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Alison about her dream acting roles, Lord Of The Rings, and more!
What inspired you to start acting?
A: “When I was young I was obsessed with movies. I used to rewatch shots that I thought were interesting and try to figure out how they were set up. I was originally drawn into the industry by my fascination with movie magic. As soon as I figured out that an acting career was a possibility, there was nothing else that I wanted to do. I was also always performing. I started in dance and piano, and my favorite part of performing was coming up with stories in my head that made the dance movements or music make sense to me. There were also specific performances that I saw that made me want to become an actor. I remember seeing Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge when I was probably 6 and thinking that she had the best job in the world. Lord of the Rings also had a huge influence on me. I’ve always loved world building, the idea of being a part of something like that was a huge inspiration.”
Who would be your dream costar?
A: “I have so many dream costars. Toni Colette, Bryan Cranston, Florence Pugh, Lucas Hedges, Laurie Metcalf to name a few.”
What advice would you give to young aspiring actresses?
A: “I would say to be a lifelong learner. I believe that you can learn about acting through class, travel, relationships and pretty much anything if you pay attention. I also think it’s really important to know your worth and understand that you’re bringing something to the table, while staying open to direction and embracing criticism.”
How did you find out you got the role in School Spirits?
A: “I was walking my dog when I heard from my team that I got the role. Then I called my family to tell them. We were all very excited.”
Do you have any favorite stories from behind the scenes of the series?
A: “Yes I do! We had so much fun shooting the show. Me, Katarina Mueller and Vanessa Prasad would tell each-other ghost stories during night shoots. There was also one night shoot where the entire cast started telling each-other riddles between takes. It was a really fun group of people to work with.”
If you could describe how you’re feeling about your new role in 3 words, what would they be?
A: “excited, curious, grateful.”
What type of movie or show would you love to star in?
A: “I’d love to be in dark psychological films, like Midsommar or Black Swan. Other than that, I’ve always wanted to be in a western period film. I grew up riding horses so that has always been a dream of mine.”
Where can we follow you?
A: “My instagram is ali.g.thornton. Twitter is aligthornton.”
Make sure you tune in to see Alison in ‘School Spirits’, available starting March 9th, only on Paramount+!
