We had the amazing journey to talk with Glowie on her stage name, favorite artists, and more!
Q: What first inspired you to start your music career?
G: “There was a lot of music in the house growing up. I think it was really obvious at a really young age that I loved music. I was making up dance moves and making up songs all the time as a kid. Later on I was a big fan of Destiny’s Child, Britney Spears, JLO, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Craig David, John Mayer, Alicia Keys… I watched Hannah Montana all the time and even played her songs in my bedroom and lip synced to them while holding my dad’s mic. It wasn’t until I was 9 when I started practicing singing myself and started to feel like I could actually do this. I was already in dance classes so this became my little project at home to get better at singing. From there things happened really fast, I took every opportunity to perform and signed up for competitions, one thing led to another and now here I am. I don’t think it was one thing that inspired me, it was many things that came in gradually.“
Q: Where did you come up with your name “Glowie”?
G: “I’m not the one who came up with it. It was a group decision with my team at the time I was about to release my first single in Iceland. I’ve had mixed feelings about the name through the years but at the end of the day it is different from everyone elses and I kinda like having a different name for myself when I’m on stage.“
Q: Tell us about your latest single “ADHD”.
G: “This song was so fun to write and so necessary for me to write and release. When I wrote the song with Pete Hammerton and Lisa Desmond I was in a very positive place with my ADHD and I wanted to share that with others who have ADHD. Because this disorder is a big struggle and can have a really negative impact on people’s lives. I wanted to help switch that and remind people of the good in having ADHD.“
Q: What has been your favorite release so far, and why?
G: ‘Throwback’ was my favorite to release because it was the first one I wrote by myself and the first independent release. It was really freeing and for some reason I felt like I’d been pretending up until then and now I could completely be myself. Maybe because ‘Throwback’ was very different from the other songs but still felt very much like me.“
Q: If you could collab with any artist, who would it be and why?
G: “So many I’d wanna pick but I think I’d have to pick Timbaland. He’s the biggest inspiration for me when it comes to production. I love what he did with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. It would be an absolute dream to do something with him.“
Q: If you could say anything to your fans right now, what would it be?
G: “I’m so grateful for my fans, I love them to pieces. And I want them to know that I’m making an album that I’m really proud of that I can’t wait for them to hear.”
Q: Can we expect more music from you in 2022?
G: “Absolutely!”
Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?
G: “You can follow me on Instagram, TikTok and Twitter @itsglowie”
