She’s an amazing singer-songwriter!
If you are looking for a brand-new music artist, then Blurry is perfect for you. She just started herself off strong with her debut single ‘Lonely Illusion’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Blurry about performing live, her dream music collab, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
B: “When I was a freshman in high school my friend and I did a duet for the talent show. She played piano, I played guitar and we both sang. We got a standing ovation. Which blew my mind because I wasn’t a popular kid. Multiple students came to me afterwards saying I should pursue music; so I started taking vocal lessons.”
What is the inspiration behind your stage name ‘Blurry’?
B: “My real name is Blair, so in high school my friends called me ‘Blur,’ which quickly evolved into ‘Blurry,’ and that stuck all the way up until now.”
Tell us about your amazing debut single ‘Lonely Illusion’.
B: “The most powerful human emotion is authenticity, and when someone is authentically sour you can feel it. For some reason, at the time when I wrote this song, I was around a lot of negative energies. It was hard for me not to absorb it myself. I needed to work through it somehow, and music has always been the perfect outlet for me.”
What is your songwriting process like?
B: “First, I write a beat or a chord progression and put it on a loop. Then, I sing a melody over the top of it. At this point, I don’t worry about words. It’s just vowel sounds, and it actually sounds really funny. Sometimes I’ll chop up the vocal recording like a DJ to get a solid vocal arrangement. Once I get a rough arrangement figured out, then I go in with lyrics. Sometimes my personal emotions drive the message of the song, and sometimes the tone of the music itself paints the picture.”
If you could collab with any fellow music artist, who would it be and why?
B: “I would love to collaborate with Rezz. I just would love to see what my music would sound like with that signature EDM bass she uses.”
What do you enjoy the most when it comes to performing live?
B: “I like the adrenaline rush. I actually get very nervous before walking on stage. Sometimes a whole week before I feel anxious, and then it all washes away once we settle into the groove. It’s like a rollercoaster ride. That feeling you get when you’re ascending in the cart, then the drop, and by then it’s a blast through the tracks and you wanna go ride it again.”
Can we expect more music from you in the future?
B: “Absolutely! So with “Lonely illusion,” I was advised to “play it safe” and write a commercial song. I understand the reason behind doing that, but I don’t necessarily agree that it is the only way. So, I am going to start showing my weird artistic side in my releases moving forward.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
B: “@itsblurrymusic on all platforms.”
