Vivien Lyra Blair On Playing Princess Leia And New Role In ‘The Boogeyman’

She is a star!

At such a young age, Vivien Lyra Blair is quickly becoming an actress on the rise. Her most recent role was starring in one of the biggest horror movies of the year, ‘The Boogeyman’.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Vivien about ‘Heritage Day’, mystery movies, and more!

What do you enjoy the most about being an actress?

V: “I really like getting to meet new people and learn new things about acting from them. I get to work with a lot of really cool people and I’m really grateful for that. I’m also a storyteller at heart, creative writing has always been my calling, and I so much enjoy reading into lore of any franchise and I love being a part of amazing stories like The ‘Star Wars’ universe and ‘The Boogeyman’. The stunts are also cool.”

Tell us more about your role in ‘The Boogeyman’.

V: “Sawyer is this strong-willed, brave-hearted person who I just love and I love portraying her. She has the courage to fight the Boogeyman even though nobody believes her, and I admire that so much. People don’t always respect people my age and dismiss someone’s opinion just because they’re under 18. It’s something I really get frustrated with and I just love how ‘The Boogeyman’ shows how amazing kids can be in tough situations.”

Are you a fan of horror movies? What is your favorite type of movie to watch?

V: “I don’t watch a lot of horror, to be honest. I love mystery movies, especially when they focus around kids. Before shooting the Boogeyman, I tried to watch some as like a step into horror, so I watched ‘The Mummy’, ‘The Sixth Sense’, and Roald Dahl’s ‘The Witches’. I just finished watching all 4 seasons of ‘Stranger Things’ as well, which I love. I’m dipping my toe into horror a little bit at a time.

You also played a young Princess Leia in Disney+’s ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’! What was that experience like?

V: “Playing such an iconic role was both scary and exciting. I had so much fun, and everyone was so nice, but it was a little nerve racking wondering if such a strong Fandom would accept me. I’m really grateful to the fans for being so amazing to me after the show premiered and I’m more than grateful to Carmen Cuba, Deborah Chow, and everyone else on that set for giving me the opportunity to show what Leia meant to me.”

What was it like to have so much contribution towards making ‘Heritage Day’?

V: “I honestly enjoyed doing Heritage Day so much. I’m pretty close with the director and writer, Lara, and she is an incredible filmmaker. This film is so amazing, funny, sad, heartwarming and inspiring all at the same time and also shows how the bond between mother and daughter is so important, especially when it comes to being honest with each other. I’m really grateful that I have such an honest relationship with my mom, and it’s something we really try to emphasize that being honest is key.”

You have worked with a lot of amazing actors! Who would you love to work with next?

V: “I really don’t usually think about the names of who I’m working with. I just care that they’re nice to me. I know that sounds corny, but it’s true. Sure, there have been a few times (Like with Hayden or Ewan) that I’ve been like ‘woah’, but it doesn’t usually occur to me how big the person’s name is. I would love to work with anyone who would teach me more about doing what I love and that list is too long to say. I would also love to work with anyone I’ve already worked with again because I’ve learned so much from every person I’ve worked with.”

When not acting, what are some of your favorite things to do?

V: “Well, I play music, ukulele and piano, I’m a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and I have 5 cats and a bearded dragon who I love hanging out with. Among those things I think filmmaking is my favorite thing to do, whether it’s acting, writing, directing, or just making up stories with my friends.”

Where can we follow your amazing journey?

V: “Well, I started with a cameo in a film called ‘Band Aid’ when I was 4 if anyone wants to try and spot me :), but as far as upcoming, I’m in the new ‘Fatal Attraction’ series streaming on Paramount +, and of course, ‘The Boogeyman’, only in theaters June 2nd, and I just wrapped this movie called Goodrich which doesn’t have a release date yet but I’m really excited for you all to see it because I love the script and the actors in it. I’m also hoping that one day I’ll be behind the camera, and everyone will get to see how much I love writing and directing just as much as acting.”
