Mirabelle Lee Talks About Black Writers Of Tomorrow And New Role In Disney’s ‘Saturdays’

Back and better than ever!

From ‘The Blacklist’ to ‘Slapface’, this is definitely not the first time you’ve watched Mirabelle Lee on your screens. Her most recent role is in the new Disney series ‘Saturdays’.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Mirabelle about ‘Sydney To The Max’, advice for aspiring actresses, and more!

We haven’t talked to you since February of last year (we are so proud of you!). How have you been?

M: “Thank you! I’ve been great! Working on school a lot and expanding my roles in different industries! I am anticipating the end of my sophomore year in high school year (finally) and the launch of a skincare line – “Reflect” with my twin sister Anais. Anais and I are traveling to England this summer to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I’m so excited!”

Tell us more about your amazing new role in Disney’s ‘Saturdays’?

M: “I play Sonia Little in Saturdays and it has been a dream. Being able to learn about the amazing world of skating has been so much fun, I’ve learned so much. I worked with such amazing people on this project and I’m endlessly grateful to be a part of the Disney, Saturdays family.”

What has been one of your favorite moments on the set of the show?

M: “My favorite moment on set was definitely when Omar and Golden got the cast and crew an ice cream truck for a snack! That week, they gifted everyone a variety of different food trucks to be stationed at the studio for the day and it was so amazing. We took a break from our hours-long skate practice and treated ourselves to the cereal-based ice cream. My cast mates and I sat on the floor and just laughed and laughed with each other while eating our ice cream. It was a great moment.”

This isn’t your first time on Disney! You were also on ‘Sydney to the Max’. What are some of your all-time favorite Disney movies/TV shows?

M: “I was a guest star on Sydney to the Max in the episode “Praise Your Voice”. It was so fun filming that episode because part of my role included singing and dancing. One of my all-time favorite Disney movies is the Twitches series! As a twin, you naturally love anything relating to twins so I was a huge Tia and Tamera fan growing up. I also love films involving magic.”

You recently co-founded Black Writers Of Tomorrow! What inspired you to want to be a part of creating such an amazing organization?

M: “One day, I decided to submit a script I wrote to a couple of film festivals. I didn’t review it with anyone or questioned it, I just did it. Afterwards, I began feeling slightly anxious about how I submitted my work without actually gathering any input from fellow writers. I posted about it in my private story on Snapchat and my friend Kolby Mitchell responded and said that he could review it for me. He read it and loved it but it got us thinking how we wish we had a group of like-minded individuals who we could share our work with to gather input and express ourselves creatively. From there we realized we didn’t have to wait for someone else to do it, we could! We set up the Instagram page the next day and a month later, we had formed our group.”

What is your best piece of advice for young girls who want to pursue an acting career?

M: “The best piece of advice I could offer is to be impulsive sometimes. Some of my best decisions have come from me randomly having an urge to do something and just doing it! It was in the middle of the night when I submitted my scripts to film festivals but it ended up being such a great decision as I won an award at Indie Short Fest for Best Short Script. Even with me entering the industry, it came from just saying “Why not!” and I ending up discovering my greatest passion in life, acting.”

You recently went to a SZA concert! We have to ask: How was it?

M: “I don’t think I’ve ever screamed louder in my life. If you know me, you know I love Sza and when she stepped on stage, I almost shed tears. Her music resonates with me a lot so being able to see her live was surreal.”

Where can we follow your amazing journey?

M: “You can follow me on Instagram at @mirabellelee and @anaismirabelle. You can also follow me on Tik Tok at @mirabelleblee and @anaismirabelle.”
