Curtis Lum Talks About Co-Founding Rare Spirit And New Role In Netflix’s ‘The Night Agent’

Curtis just made his Netflix debut!

It would quite literally take all day to name all of the shows and movies Curtis Lum has appeared in. From ‘Supergirl’ to ‘The Good Doctor’, this actor is not a stranger to our TV screens.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Curtis about his favorite Netflix shows, his upcoming projects, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?

C: “I think I always knew I’d be “entertaining” people in some way, I just never necessarily thought it would be in the form of acting. But one day I accidentally walked onto the set of “Romeo Must Die” when I was a little kid, and I immediately fell in love with the whole spectacle of making movies. And the rest was history.”

Tell us more about your new role in the amazing Netflix series ‘The Night Agent’.

C: “I play a character called Cisco Jenkins who was a Maryland State Trooper that graduated Quantico with the lead of the show, Peter Sutherland. The two of them had a close friendship and a long history together and so when he gets a call from Peter one day in need of some covert help, he immediately leaps into action.”

Do you think you have anything in common with your character Cisco Jenkins?

C: “Absolutely. I lent a lot of my personal qualities to the character in terms of his overall vibe. I also tried to craft Cisco in a way that was as real and dynamic of a person as possible –  for example, he was kinda silly at times, but also deadly serious. He was open and vulnerable but also ready to take matters into his own hands and was fearless when he needed to be. All things that I think I am as well.”

Now that you are a part of the Netflix family, what are some of your favorite Netflix original shows and movies?

C: “I’m a huge fan of some of their classics – Ozark, Squid Games, and Money Heist to name a few. I’m really looking forward to watching their new, Asian lead series called “Beef” starring Ali Wong and Steven Yuen.”

You have worked with a lot of amazing actors and actresses! Who would be your dream costar?

C: “Oh my, that’s a tough one… I don’t think I can narrow it down to just one.

At the moment, there are too many names coming to me, but I would love to work with some of the greats: Brad, Leo, Denzel, Deniro, Keanu, J.Law, Adam Sandler, and Jamie Foxx to name a few, and not in any particular order… oh and two more, I think Frank Grillo or Kate Winslet would be gems to work with as well.”

In 2020, you co-founded Rare Spirit! What first inspired you to work on a clothing brand?

C: “I’ve always been a fan of creating my own thing in whatever spaces I’m inspired by and clothing and fashion were sort of my first love. My co-founder, Richard Doromal and I really wanted to put something out there that embodied a strong message, that could inspire people but also use it as a platform to help give back to our communities. And thus, Rare Spirit was created.”

Can you tease if you have anything in the works?

C: “Yes, I am currently working on an exciting new animated series, an absolutely wicked documentary on a legendary musician, and last but not least, I’m developing my first feature film under my own banner, SOON FILMS. I can’t wait to share these 3 particular projects with the world! I  also have a beautiful short film coming out this year called “The Stranger” starring the lovely Yvonne Chapman (Kung Fu, Avatar: Last airbender) and myself.”

Where can we follow your amazing journey?

C: “I’m only on instagram. Come say hi 🙂 instagram.com/hansumlum/.”
