Lee Tyler Talks About His Growth As An Actor And New Role In ‘Townhouse Confidential’

He is an actor you need to know!

With over a dozen roles under his belt, actor Lee Tyler has been proving how amazing of a performer he is. Recently, he starred in the movie ‘Townhouse Confidential’, which is available to watch on Apple TV.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Lee about filming his recent movie in Manhattan, his upcoming roles, and more!

Hi Lee, welcome! Let’s talk about your newest film project, Townhouse Confidential, which had a limited release in theaters and is now out on digital platforms. How did you get involved with it? What drew you to the story?

L: I got involved the old-fashioned way! Self-tape submission. I guess that’s not very old-fashioned, but it’s certainly the norm for auditioning nowadays. Even our callbacks were on Zoom. More old-fashioned was the tone of the script itself. Rosalind Resnick brings an earnestness to her storytelling that I find appealing. The characters read as larger-than-life, and I relished the opportunity to go full soap opera.”

How do you relate to your character George Barrow? Is there anything special you did to get into character?

L: “Well, apparently, I’ve been preparing for this role for many years because love has not been my forté in recent memory. I’m not an all-out cynic, but I do relate to George’s avoidant tendencies. I’ve fallen hard for the wrong people, turned down the right people, nurtured long-term relationships, and steered far clear of them. Now thirty-five and single, I can say I’ve learned a school’s worth of lessons. Hey, whatever fills the subtext, am I right?”

Where did filming take place? Are there any interesting spots you would frequent when filming?

L: We shot almost entirely in the West Village of Manhattan, blocks away from Washington Square Park, which has long been one of my favorite places in New York, so I took most of my lunch breaks there. There’s a lot of sitting around on film sets, huddled indoors with the script or a book, so whenever I got the chance for fresh air, I’d head over to the Washington Square fountain and take in the sights. Always something interesting to see, and I always returned to the set feeling refreshed.”

Do you have advice for other actors about filming?

L: “Breathe consciously through your nose before, during, and after acting. Thoughts and words tend to arrive with more grace that way.”

How do you feel you have grown since you first started acting?

L: “Oh, man! I’ve grown in so many ways over the past twenty-four years (I caught the acting bug in 1999 at age twelve). I’ve learned a lot of tricks, ways to speak different types of language, ways to hold myself, and ways to stay sane. I think the sign of best growth, though, is that I’ve regained a level of excitement that feels unquenchable. Acting school can sour people with how cerebral it gets, and then the ruthless nature of the industry itself can put people off wanting to act at all. I found myself feeling jaded and exhausted after several years of hustle in New York. But in recognizing that I’d lost some of my love for acting, I challenged myself to nurture other artistic pursuits. I put about two years’ time into amplifying my creativity in other channels (mostly music and editing), and afterward, I found myself more in love with acting than I’d ever been before. I know I’ve grown because I still feel like an excited kid whenever I get a chance to play make-believe.”

What other film projects are you working on?

L: “I play supporting roles in two short films making the rounds at festivals: “While He Talks” and “Female Narrative.” They were joyous collaborations with close friends in New York.”
