Actress Aubin Bradley Talks About Her Future Plans, Jenna Ortega, And Nickelodeon Role

Such a rising star!

From Netflix’s The Watcher and HBO Max’s Gossip Girl, actress Aubin Bradley is always on our screens! She now stars as the fan-favorite Lucy Loud in the Nickelodeon The Really Loud House.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Aubin about how she relates to her Nick character, working with her sister, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in entertainment?

A:Both of my sisters were already dancing, acting and singing when I was really little so it all started with me just tagging along and following in their footsteps.  Catherine and Alex were both really into theatre and I caught the theatre bug also.  I remember Alex booking the Broadway Tour of Sound of Music and playing Gretl and I was like I want to do that too.  All three of us would also sing together in cabarets in New York city and that was so much fun! When the audition for the Broadway Tour of Les Miserables came in, I was determined. Alex was the one who told me I got the part of Little Cosette.  We were both laughing and crying together.   A week later, Catherine booked Harry Potter on Broadway. It was crazy.  All three of us were on different Broadway shows in different locations at the same time.”

How do you balance your successful acting career with your school life?

A: “I am really into school.  When I grow up, I want to be a NASA rocket scientist.  I also love to read so much, especially fantasy books.  I want to go to a college like Yale or USC so I have to keep my grades up and be in the accelerated classes.  That can be a challenge when on set.  But I have a great support system of teachers on set and teachers at my regular school that really work with me to make sure I am learning everything I need to and keep up.  My mom is also on set with me and she is a total nerd. I call her “Geek Rex” because she is smart but ferocious when it comes to school!”

You do an amazing job of starring as ‘Lucy Loud’ in the live-action adaptations of ‘The Loud House’. What has this experience been like for you?

A: Working with a set full of kids and two new parents is one of the best parts of working on The Really Loud House.  It is like a second family.  We have weekly game nights at the Allan twin’s house and literally terrorize the neighborhood we live in together.  We now are working on getting walkie talkies so we can be in constant communication.  I also LOVE the crew so much. We go rock climbing together and they have become another family to me as well.  They are all so supportive and loving towards me.  I have also worked with some of the best directors and writers ever.  The whole team has become a family –  we really all love each other.  It makes being away from home so much easier having friends around to play with and go to school with on set!  I feel very lucky to be on this show and to work with all of them.”

Do you think you have anything in common with Lucy?

A: “Lucy and I  have our differences but we do have a ton in common.  I really enjoy supernatural powers, scary and dark things and especially spooky-themed celebrations.  My brother Colin and I used to decorate the basement with over 100 plastic tombstones and have adventures down there together when I was really little. I also especially love to scare people and the crew on set. I LOVE Halloween and was born Halloween night.  Like Lucy, I love to read (but not necessarily poetry.) Lucy does not show a lot of emotion but underneath her calm exterior she does have a mischievous side. It’s really important to be different from your character so I do incorporate some of my own personality into her.  I am a lot more free-spirited than Lucy and much more high energy in real life. I am also very silly at times and love joking around with my friends and family.”

You also work alongside your sister Catherine Bradley in this show, who is also our cover star for our Winter issue! Have you had fun working with your sister?

A: Yes. That is the craziest part of being on this show.  My actual older sister Catherine is Luan Loud and plays my older sister on the show.  We are sharing this experience together which makes this so much more special.  Catherine is the most incredible and talented actress I know and that I have ever worked with.  We work scenes together and she will give me advice and she is always dead on with her choices.  She can do the most gut-wrenching dramatic scenes and then turn around and impersonate someone and make you literally die laughing until it hurts.  She really can do it all.  She is also really smart and works so hard so I really look up to her. We sometimes get in normal sibling arguments, but we are so lucky to be able to work together and support each other.”

Besides the ones that you have starred in, what are some of your favorite Nickelodeon shows?

A:When I was little, I really loved the Thundermans.  It was about a family with superpowers who were trying to live normal lives hidden in a town called Hiddenville. It was a really funny show with a twin brother and sister.  I remember the sister wanted to be a  superhero and use her powers for good and her twin brother wanted to be the next big supervillain and use his powers for evil. Let’s just say none of them were that great including the parents at keeping their super powers hidden.”

Is there an actress you would love to work with one day?

A: “Well, my sisters of course. I am working with Catherine right now but would love to work with Alex because she is so talented and fun to be with also.  If I had to pick someone outside my family, it would be Jenna Ortega.  She is playing Wednesday Adams right now on the show Wednesday and is incredible in the role.  I would love to get the chance to meet and work with her and get some advice on playing such a dean-pan character.  Wednesday is a lot like my role of Lucy Loud and I think I could learn a lot from her.  I have also heard she is a great person and a lot of fun to work with.”
