Is there anything she can’t do?
Now you might remember Tucker as a former Miss Tennesse. But now, this singer-songwriter is making great strides in to the music industry. Just a few weeks ago she released her amazing debut album entitled ‘Too Close To Home’.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Tucker about her dream collab, iconic pageant history, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pivot from the beauty industry to a music career?
T: “I was actually singing long before I started doing pageants! However, I grew up watching Miss USA and Miss Universe and always wanted to give it a try. My first pageant was at 17 years old and I “retired” by 21 (which was my age after I finished my year as Miss Tennessee USA). That was such an amazing experience and I feel like so much of training during those years prepared me for everything I still do now. After standing on stage in front of millions of people watching live from home, it’s hard to get too nervous about anything. Prior to (and during) my year as Miss Tennessee USA, I went to Belmont University where I studied Commercial Music. I always knew I wanted to be a recording artist, but it was at Belmont where I really started writing my own music also.“
Tell us more about the meaning behind your recently released debut album ‘Too Close To Home’.
T: “It’s a collective feeling of being a scared, confused kid and growing into an adult who has gained full awareness of what my expectations are from the company I keep. I’m able to look at my childhood through an adult lens now and it’s been a really interesting thing to process and finally really heal from. I had stayed silent for so long that I was terrified of what might happen when I finally started talking about my history with certain people. I’ve deal with this privately for the bulk of my life, so it feels really soul baring to even speak on it, let alone release it out into the world. I’ve been really careful about not specifically naming the subjects…because this album isn’t *about* them. It’s about how it impacted me, how I’m healing from it AND how I’m making sure not to ever repeat their patterns. The last time I saw The Subject of this album (which was years ago now), I told them that I couldn’t endure anymore of their abuse. Their response, laced with vitriol, was “there’s therapy for that”….This album *is* my therapy in its purest form. Too Close To Home is meant to be a “I finally did it for us” moment for me and my inner child who didn’t have a voice. This album is very much about finding (and using) your voice. It’s about demanding accountability. It’s about setting healthy boundaries, self awareness, healing, narcissistic abuse recovery…it’s so many things to me.“
We know that it’s hard to choose, but if you have a favorite track off of the album, what is it and why?
T: “I feel like my “favorite” changes daily depending on the mood I’m in. Today, I’m feeling “Nah”. It’s very “I’m unbothered, I’ve moved on, please let me live my life in peace”. And I love a good French 75, the drink I mention in the first line of the song. “And you lost your right to be concerned when you were fanning flames just to watch me burn” is one of my favorite lyrics on the album. I think.“
Your music has already amassed over 2 Million streams on just Spotify alone! What has been your reaction to your rising success?
T: “Wait no way, that’s awesome…I hadn’t checked lately…I’m too scared to look!!! It doesn’t feel real at all. I still have a long way to go and a lot to prove to myself, but I’m trying to celebrate small victories and big milestones. I have so much that I still want to accomplish, and I’m excited about what’s next. I feel really honored there are people who are liking the music so far!!!“
If you collab on a single with any fellow artist, who would it be and why?
T: “DRAKE!!! He’s my dream collab. I’ve been a huge fan of his music for a long time. I think we’d work really great together. Another dream collab would be Taylor Swift. I was actually in her Teardrops On My Guitar music video years ago (my role was as the girl who was dating the boy she liked) and it would be an amazing full-circle moment to get to work with her again, but this time collaborating together musically. She’s a brilliant writer.“
Can we selfishly ask if you would consider touring/live performing in the future?
T: “Yes!! Absolutely. I miss playing out live and definitely am working toward putting a good show together to take on the road sometime hopefully very soon.“
Can we expect more music from you in the future?
T: “Oh yes! I was actually working on an entirely different album before I ended up writing this one AND I’m about to go back into the studio in a couple of weeks, so I have lots more on the way.“
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
T: “Instagram (@tuckernicholw), Twitter (@tuckernicholw), TikTok (@tuckernichol)!“
