Dancer Jessica Doll On Dream Collabs And Performing At The Madison Square Garden

This talented dancer is a crowd favorite!

Professional choreographer and dancer Jessica Doll is no stranger to the entertainment industry. Over the years, she has been a dancer for some of the biggest stars in the world, including Maluma and Ariana Grande.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Jessica about her career during the pandemic, advice for young dancers, and more!

When did your first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in dance?

J: I always had a passion for performing which started with musical theatre. I then began dance classes and fell in love with it. Our dance studio took a trip to California to perform at Disneyland when I was younger and also attended many dance conventions. It was after we  finished performing I thought “ I would love to dance professionally in  California!” After that I had my eye on the prize.

You have been on so many amazing stages throughout your career.  Which has been your favorite experience/tour so far, and why?

J: I have so many favorites! One of the most special for me was during the Papi Juancho Tour at Madison Square Garden. Madison Square  Garden is such an iconic venue for a dancer and performer. I just remember our sold out show rumbling through our feet and crying on stage with joy. Another unforgettable experience was performing in  Morocco with Maluma. We performed In front of 30,000 people which was exhilarating. It was also an outdoor concert which is so beautiful because you’re performing under the stars!”

Not only have you danced on stage, but you are not shy of dancing in our favorite shows. What differences do you see when dancing on stage vs. in tv shows? Which do you prefer?

J: I love doing both! They both have pro’s and con’s .TV is all about portraying a character while dancing, which I feel a bit more connected with based off my musical theatre background. Live shows are exhilarating and so special but definitely harder on your body as it requires a certain level of athleticism. I’m currently loving TV/Film work and being able to be on camera! Another area i’ve grown to love is behind the scenes stage work ( choreography/ movement coaching )  I’ve started working with a few newer artists that are just beginning their careers on stage. Therefore I get them feeling more comfortable  dancing and moving with their microphone and giving them some go-to steps and staging!

You have worked with so many incredible artists, from Maluma to  Ariana Grande. Who would you love to work with next?

J: There are so many but to pick a few I would say Taylor Swift or Justin  Bieber, I’m a huge fan of pop music so anything in that realm. I would also love to have the chance to dance with Ariana Grande more!

Unfortunately, this pandemic has not fully left yet. That being said, what advice do you have to remain successful and focused during it?

J:The pandemic has been tough for everyone. I think for dancers its all about adjusting our paths and being open to switching things up and expanding. I’ve started teaching a lot more and Choreographing/ Movement Directing for upcoming artists. By expanding and exploring  my talents I’ve created a space where I’m not just relying on dancer bookings.

When not dancing, what are some of your favorite things to do?

J: I just moved close to the beach and definitely take advantage of it. I also love DIY projects, hiking and photography. I think its so important to fill  your cup in other ways than your career so you’re always feeling inspired!

What advice would you give to young girls wanting to pursue a career in dancing? What would you warn them about/encourage?

J: Train hard, do your research and stay true to yourself! This industry is tough and you must have a strong backbone. Build up a negativity force field, don’t sweat the small stuff and just do your best! It’s so important to enjoy the journey. Having good, positive energy will also attract the right people to you!

Where can we follow your amazing journey?

J: “You can follow me through my instagram @jessicadoll and my teaching/ choreography account @dollinmotion!
