Artist Jaguar Jonze On Mental Health And Debut Album ‘BUNNY MODE’

This artist is simply amazing!

Deena Lynch, known in the music world as Jaguar Jonze, has quickly become an artist to know! The singer-songwriter recently released her debut album ‘BUNNY MODE’, which has received over 1 Million streams on just Spotify alone.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Jaguar about her favorite song off of her album, Charlie XCX, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?

J: “It was a bit of a slow progression, but at 20, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in music. I didn’t grow up making music but fell into it as a way to process trauma and as a cathartic outlet. I picked up a guitar at a garage sale, and instead of learning how to play it, I started to write songs that became a way that I could have an honest dialogue with myself. I told myself to do one gig as a bucket list tick, but after finishing that performance, I fell in love, and it was hard to turn away from passion.”

Tell us about the personal story of your incredible debut album ”Bunny Mode”.

J: “BUNNY MODE is incredibly personal. It was created alongside my public journey and recovery, overcoming a sexual assault by two producers in the music industry, and my subsequent advocacy for the Australian music industry to look at its systemic issues and establish safer workplaces for all of us to work in. I wrote it for other survivors to find a safe refuge and empower them to redefine their trauma and take back their power. That’s what BUNNY MODE is for me as well.”

What advice would you give to your fans who may be struggling with PTSD?

J: “Find safety and seek professional help. Establishing a safe and supportive network and equipping yourself with the tools and techniques to begin the healing process is important. It’s difficult and a lot of hard work, but it is worth it. It’s an up and down journey, and it feels like you constantly have to push yourself up a steep mountain, but if you take those baby steps and give yourself the love you deserve, you’ll soon look back and see a whole terrain of mountains that you’ve you’ve been able to conquer.”

If you had to choose, what is your favorite song off of the album, and why?

J: DRAWING LINES is a favorite of mine. For me, it’s a gut-wrenching song sung and written with so much heartbreak and pain, but there’s also hope. I wrote DRAWING LINES amidst my healing process, but with the realization that I have to go through this pain to get to the other side for the life I want for myself.”

Who would you say are your biggest music inspirations?

J: “It always changes, but Portishead is always one I come back to. I also love Jeff Buckley, Massive Attack, and am currently obsessed with Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, and Rina Sawayama.”

What has been your reaction to receiving over 2 Million streams on your music so far?

J: Woah. HAHA I haven’t even registered that. IS THAT FOR REAL?? That feels so surreal. A lot of hard work has gone into my music and all the art around it. I feel like my path has been a slow build, and I am proud of that. It hasn’t been a quick fix, viral moment, or hype. I hope to show other artists that there are many paths to a successful and sustainable career in art, I don’t feel like I’m quite there yet, but I’m determined to keep chipping away until I get there.”

What’s next for your music career? Maybe there’s a tour in the future?

J: I’m currently on tour at home in Australia. It’s been a huge pleasure to be able to play arenas and stadiums with The Wombats and now take BUNNY MODE around nationally for our headline tour. I hope to be able to take my music face-to-face with my international fans and keep pushing my creative boundaries.”

Where can we follow your amazing journey?

J: Well, you can stream any of the Jaguar Jonze songs on your favorite streaming platforms. I put a lot of myself into my music videos, too, so I recommend checking them out on YouTube.
