‘Chicken Girls’ Actress Mehra Marzbani On Hannah Montana And Influential Role

This young actress is one to watch!

Actress Mehra is a name to know in the entertainment industry. She now stars as ‘Yasmina’ in one of Brat TV’s most popular series ‘Chicken Girls’.

We had the amazing honor to talk with Mehra about her dream costars, Legally Blonde, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in acting?

M:Well, my childhood consisted mainly of sleeping, eating, and watching television, so the many hours I spent watching Hannah Montana certainly garnered my passion for acting. I had so much respect for the actors’ ability to make me laugh, and seeing the actors work together on screen to tell a story seemed so much fun! But I also wondered why I never saw a girl like myself–a quirky Middle Eastern girl with a big heart–in the shows I was watching. So I was also determined to become a positive role model to other young girls like myself by pursuing acting. I’m very grateful to my family and acting teachers for allowing me to do what I love and grow as a human being!”

What do you love about your character in Brat’s TV show Chicken Girls?

M: “Yasmina may be the new student, but she certainly knows how to leave an impression! She’s sure of herself, determined, and *very* smart, making her a character young girls can look up to. And she’s the first hijabi character on Chicken Girls! I’m truly honored that a digital media network as influential as BratTV trusted me with a character like Yasmina, and I hope that this is only the beginning of a new era of shows that embrace diversity and uniqueness!”

Do you think you have anything in common with your character?

M: Both Yasmina and I share a tremendous passion and commitment to our respective communities. For Yasmina, she persuades her school’s student body to create the position of “New Student Ambassador ” so that new students like herself feel included as they transition to a new learning environment, something she felt passionate about. I actually think that playing her inspired me to make a difference in my own community. Seeing how the Middle East North Africa (MENA) community, which I identify with, is underrepresented in the arts made me want to create a space where I could empower MENA artists and highlight their works. That’s why I created MENAarts Newsletter, a first-of-its-kind e-newsletter that hopefully does just that! So, if anything, I think Yasmina and I both want to use our voices for good, which I hope inspires others to do the same!”

Do you have a fun memory from being on set that you can share?

M: “I sure do! In between takes, my scene partners and I would have staring contents. And we took them very seriously, mentally keeping track of the champion so we could continue the contests during our next break. I’d like to thank my penetrating stare for my undefeated victory.”

What actresses or actors would you love to work with in the future?

M:Some actors that immediately cross my mind are Julia Robers, Zendaya, Gemma Chan, and my celebrity crush, Andrew Garfield. They’re incredibly talented, but also humble about their accomplishments. And they’re also involved in human rights and charity work–a good reminder that actors can still be altruistic!”

If you had a magic wand, what tv show or movie would you love to be a part of?

M: “Honestly, I’d be grateful to be cast in any movie or TV show, but it would be surreal to be in a Legally Blonde remake: Legally Brunette (assuming I would be the lead, haha). Legally Blonde is one of my favorite feel-good films, and I would love to see my take on the iconic character, Elle Woods!”

What is something readers would be surprised to learn about you?

M:I can speak conversational Spanish! I’m definitely not perfect, especially when it comes to the pluperfect tense, but I’m working on it! I also started self-studying Japanese a couple of summers ago, so I hope to continue with that again when I have the time.”

Where can we follow your amazing journey?

M:That’s so sweet of you to ask! I suppose you could take a look at my Instagram page (@mehramarzbani), where I sporadically post about my acting life. I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about me!”
