Actress Elisha Davis On HBO’s “Queer As Folk” And Being In New Orleans

This rising actress is reaching her dreams!

Actress Elisha Davis is quickly becoming a treat to spot on our screens. And, just in time for Pride Month, she recently caught our eye in her appearance on the HBO Max original series “Queer As Folk”.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Elisha about her acting journey so far, her go-to movie, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in acting?

E:A year ago, I would not have guessed that I’d get to work on a Boots Riley production or be on the same set as people I grew up watching. It all started with me not being afraid to ask a question last winter. I saw people filming near campus so I stopped to ask how to get involved. Not long after, I began my journey in television & film working on Disney and AMC productions however I could. Kris Davis is one phenomenal actor I met that started off as a silent star. I took a similar approach to start my career too. My first time on television was as a silent star on the show “Queer As Folk”. These past few months I’ve spent most of my time on set / filming or auditioning.”

You recently made your HBO Max debut in the series ‘Queer As Folk’. What was that experience like for you?

E: My experience on “Queer As Folk” was great. I met one of my best friends on set. I enjoyed being apart of “Queer As Folk” because the show is so important to the New Orleans community especially those identifying as LGBTQ. Actually, there was even a premiere party here the day the show came out. “Queer as Folk” captures alot of New Orleans culture throughout the series, from the beignets to the idea that NOLA is a place where a lot of people feel free to be who they are. We see a lot of people who feel totally free in New Orleans, especially in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras. I love that.”

When not acting, what are some of your favorite things to do?

E: I love to cook. Being in New Orleans has definitely expanded my culinary style. I enjoy creole food. Also, I love to travel. Atlanta is starting to feel like a second home. Houston is also a great city. As a creative it is important to travel, especially internationally if you can because exposure to other cultures expands ideas.”

You have many upcoming projects coming up-Which one are you most excited for people to see?

E: I am excited for people to see all of them! Everything coming out is going to be great. I wouldn’t say I have a favorite project I worked on because each is its own unique experience!”

If you had to choose your favorite/go-to movie, what is it and why?

E: “Growing up my favorite movie was Dreamgirls. It means more to me now as an upcoming actress because I understand how much hard work and dedication goes into a production. As an upcoming actress it made my experience on set with Jamie Foxx even more meaningful. I try to be a sponge, take mental notes and learn something with every experience I have on set. I learned a lot from watching some of the best in the game.”

You are quite the fashionista-What is your favorite clothing brand?

E: My favorite brand is Zara. However, my closet ranges from designer to thrift shops. I love mixing pieces together to create different looks.

My everyday wardrobe is different from my tv wardrobe especially because I’ve done a few period pieces. I feel like with every production I learn something new about style from the wardrobe department. Every stylist I’ve ever met has their own vibe and I love it. They have an eye of what looks great for a particular character. Somethings I wear on tv don’t always work in real life vice versa.”

If you could be a part of any movie franchise, which would it be and why?

E: “I’d love to be in a Marvel movie. Growing up I watched a lot of action movies with my family. Also because I have an appreciation for special effects. I met a few guys who worked on Spider-Man Homecoming. It’s cool seeing the behind the scenes of things and learning about what makes a movie come to life.”
