6 Things We Learnt From That Explosive Meghan & Harry Interview.

This week 50 million people watched the explosive Tv interview Oprah Winfrey interviewing Duke & Duchess Harry & Mehgan. After leaving their Royal duties in March 2021 to move to America, the couple felt now was the time to speak their truth and it was more shocking than watching an episode of The Crown.

1. Kate made Meghan cry.

In the run-up to the Royal wedding, there was speculation that the sister-in-laws had a disagreement over bridesmaids dresses that ended with Meghan making Kate cry. However, Meghan put Oprah straight and explained that it was actually “the reverse” and that Kate had made Meghan cry, she felt so bad that she sent Meghan flowers and a letter to apologise.

2. The British Press

Meghan was loved by the British and the media in the beginning, she was tabloid story gold, an American actress meets a Prince, falls in love and marries him just like in the fairytales. But shortly after the wedding the tabloids began to turn, there were many stories in the press that Meghan explained were simply not true.

3. Meghan’s mental health issues.

Why Oprah Got So Upset During Meghan Markle's Interview

In 2016 The Royals started Heads Together, a mental health charity to get people talking about mental health issues. So when Meghan dropped the bomb that she was having problems with the media attention and that was affecting her mental health.

Meghan talked about how the mental health pushed her to have suicidal thoughts which no one should ever have to go through.

It raises the question of why was this ignored by the royal’s when they feel so strongly about mental health issues?

4. Its a Girl.

Thankfully it wasn’t all bad news, the couple revealed that they will be expecting a daughter in the Summer and there is much speculation that she will be named Diana although it’s more likely that will be her middle name.

5. History repeating itself.

If you know anything about Royal History an American marrying, a prince, being cut off from the royal family and being interviewed on TV may sound a bit familiar. That’s because it has happened before when Prince Edward VII married Wallis Simpson in 1972. Meghan also talked about how when she was pregnant she was suicidal which mirrors that of Princess Diana, the similarities are indisputable.

6. Racism

The most shocking revelation was the comment a family member had questioned Harry when Meghan was pregnant of the darkness of the babies (Archie) skin tone. Not only did that

comment leave host Oprah with her mouth on the floor but also everyone else watching. It was the most shocking thing to hear from anyone but from a member of the royal family even more so.

The interview has been watched by over 50 million and has caused uproar throughout the UK and America with opinions are divided. The Queen gave a statement expressing her sadness at how the couple felt over the last few years and that the racism would be dealt with behind closed doors.

The interview caused controversy around mental health and racism issues within the palace but the question is, will the monarchy come back from this?
