BTS have finally received a long overdue nomination at the 2021 GRAMMY Awards, officially becoming the first-ever K-pop group to receive a nomination. “Dynamite”, the group’s latest hit, was nominated for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, alongside stars Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. The group later took to Twitter with a video of members RM, V, Jungkook, and Jimin reacting to their nomination. The caption was a hilarious key smash: “Ohmmmmmmyyyyyyyyggghghhhhhhhgggggggggdhdhsjsixudbslsogbdsisgshdbxidjdbdidhdifjfiri”, showing the members excitement. It was partnered along with the hashtags #GRAMMYS and #BTS.
The boy band’s popularity has increasingly grown throughout the past year, having recently released a new album ‘BE’, which guided many through the tough year of 2020. BTS debuted in 2013 with their album ‘2 COOL 4 SKOOL’ and music video of hit ‘No More Dream’. They continued on to create nine more albums, consisting of ‘Love Yourself’ and ‘Wings’. The band made their way from being recognized as ‘Best New Artist’ at the Melon Music Awards in 2013 to performing at the BBMAS to now becoming the first K-pop group to receive a GRAMMY nomination.
This was a long-anticipated nomination by members and by ARMY. In a 2018 interview with J-14, the band was asked what the next step for BTS was, which SUGA humbly replied: “Maybe… GRAMMY?” I mean, whatever SUGA wants, SUGA gets, right?
