Originally from Ohio, Jaidyn Triplett is a Los Angeles-based, Afro-Latina actress who found her love of being in front of the camera with her dad (Joshua Triplett) at an early age. She has since been featured in over 50 national commercials and can most recently be seen starring in Apple TV+’s See. She has also had roles in ABC’s Station19, Showtime’s The Affair and Netflix’s Family Reunion, as well as in the feature films Major Deal and A Stone Cold Christmas. When not acting, she enjoys spending her time gaming, cooking, working on music, creating content for her social media platforms, and spending time with her family.
We had the honor of interviewing Jaidyn and talking about all things acting, working with family, and her dream roles.
What was your first ever acting role?
J: “My first ever acting role was actually with my dad, Joshua Triplett. It was a national commercial for the grocery store Fresh & Easy. I loved it because l had to drink a lot of orange juice in the scene and purposefully make somewhat of a mess in the kitchen. I was about 3 years old. It was so much fun!“
What has been your experience like working on the iCarly Reboot?
J: “It has been magical so far. I have met so many intelligent and kind people. Miranda and Laci are really the sweetest. They took me under their wings like big sisters and they make sure to connect with me as much as possible. We have fun text groups and I teach them the latest TikTok dances every chance I get. Nathan is extremely helpful and the only actual parent in the cast so he’s somewhat like my parent for real, lol. And Spencer keeps the jokes rolling constantly. He and I have this cool bond where we prank each other and crack jokes all the time. Everyone was so welcoming, the cast, crew, writers, producers… we all became family very fast and truly love each other. 100% The best!”
Did you watch the original iCarly when you were younger? Do you have a favorite character?
J: “Yes l did watch the original! Something weird is, l started watching it like a week before l got the audition! I love watching throwbacks. I’ve binged Sister, Sister, Fresh Prince and Moesha, and I noticed iCarly and started to binge that too! Once I got the audition, it became a great way to study. I watched two or three seasons while going through the process of getting on the show. My favorite part was when Nevel used to say, “You will rue the day you rejected me Carly Shay!” Nevel and crazy Spencer were my favorite characters!”
What is your favorite aspect of acting in the entertainment industry?
J: “Definitely the food! No, I’m just kidding, lol. It’s for sure making new friends and meeting new people. I’ve worked with people who I became friends with on set and we are still very close. There is something cool about that. Meeting awesome people that have similar interests. I also love that I get to work with my family on set sometimes. My dad got us all in the industry and we started out doing commercial campaigns together as a full family. Working with family is the best!”
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t on set?
J: “I enjoy just being a kid. Gaming, creating content for social media, baking, working on my music, playing outside, traveling with my family… And more recently, Miranda and I started to hang out more and going hiking with our families. It’s really fun to be able to bond with the cast off set.”
Who is your biggest acting inspiration and why?
J: “Honestly, l love, love, love, Marsai Martin. She is so talented and she is a gazillion threat. She is a producer, director, actress, and last but not least, a HUGE inspiration. She is most definitely someone l look up to. I worked with her on Black-ish but we knew her family before that so I really got a chance to watch her journey. What she is doing is groundbreaking and I’m taking notes. Love you Marsai!”
If you can star in a movie with any actor/actress, who would it be and why?
J: “One of my favorite actresses is probably, Elle Fanning. I learned about her because she was a voice actor in one of my favorite cartoons, Leap. It’s about facing your dreams and it definitely inspired me. Then I saw her in other awesome movies and loved her work.
If l could star in any movie, l think it would be the live-action, Carmen San Diego, because I am dying to play a spy in a movie. I even dressed up as Carmen San Diego this past Halloween. You never know, the universe might make it happen.”
Season 1 of ‘iCarly’ is out right now, only on Paramount Plus!
