A new singer is here!
Pop music is alive and well, and these rising and relatable artists are helping it stay that way. One emerging standout is Siena Fantini, a talented singer-songwriter who recently released her debut EP “what is it with me?”. It’s a tasteful collection of her first released singles, including her biggest streaming hit thus far, “poptart”.
We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Siena about her Berklee background, being in a band, and more!
You have been quickly rising in popularity, especially after you released your single “poptart” a little while back, which is such an incredible representation of your voice and artistry. Can you walk us through how that song came to be?
S: “Hey there!! Thanks so much. Honestly, the idea for “poptart” came straight out of my own life experiences. There was this friend that I had kinda confusing feelings for. The line between platonic and romantic became so blurred, that every single moment we shared felt like it was slid under a microscope in my brain for me to examine, turn over, and analyze.”
This was your third single you’ve ever released – Does it take the top spot as your personal favorite or is one of the others still the closest to your heart?
S: “I love this question!! It might be “Recency Bias,” but “poptart” might be my favorite right now. Every single song carries importance to me, because they all feel like dogears on the page of my life story. “Wanna know her name” is important to me because it was some of the most fun I’ve had writing- and it was a different style for me to write in that sassy kind of manner. “The loved” was also so fun to write because it felt like I had suddenly uncovered a new part of my songwriting, and it touched on a topic that I’m
usually scared to talk about. But sonically, I do think that “poptart” is my favorite.”
You recently attended the coveted Berklee College of Music Summer Songwriting Workshop! What was that experience like?
S: “Berklee was incredible. Hands down. For it only being one week, I felt like a sponge the entire time. I made so many connections- teachers, friends- they were all so inspiring. I also fall in love with Boston all over again every time I’m there. Being immersed in the community and the school felt like a glimpse into what college could look like for me. I learned so much about music, business, industry, analysis and writing- that when the week was over, I didn’t want to leave. Bonus points because my dorm (shout out to my
roommate!!) had an incredible view of the city, haha.”
Would you recommend aspiring music artists to also embark on a workshop/professional music mentorship class?
S: “I recommend workshops and camps to literally any musician. Being involved with people who want to do the same thing as you in life is genuinely the most inspiring environment. The connections you make with people who are passionate about the same things are so important.“
We have to talk about this band, Eclipse! Did that experience help you on your journey into becoming a solo music artist?
S: “AH!!! I love Eclipse so much. The band was formed through my school, since I attend an art high school. It was one of my first times being in a real long-term band, and through the band I learned so much all at once. I was also the band leader, and leading and keeping the band organized was a different type of leadership that I really learned a lot from leaning into. Being in Eclipse and performing together to this day is some of the most fun I’ve ever had performing. I love everyone in the band too, they’re such special and talented people. I look up to them in their own respective ways. I’m actually in a new band this year, which I’m beyond excited about- but Eclipse will always be such a formative experience for me.”
Looking forward to your future as a young adult in music, what are some of your short-term and long-term goals for your career?
S: “Some of my short-term goals are just releasing more music. I just want to keep writing and writing and pushing myself to step out of my comfort zone. In the long term however, I really hope that more people hear my music and care about it in the same way I do. That’s the dream.”
