If you are looking for a music group to listen to, keep reading.
They only have a few singles out so far, but Every Us is quickly becoming a name to know in the music industry. They recently released a new song titled ‘AWCB’. And spoiler alert: it’s a whole vibe!
We had the honor of talking with one of the amazing members, Ryan Jones, about one of their other songs: ‘Fool’s Gold’!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
R: “When I found myself recording vocals with my screen off on Zoom and I kept getting voices from the call in the background.”
What is the inspiration behind your stage name ‘Every Us’?
R: “The purpose of the band is capturing when “I” becomes “Us”, it’s a play off making music and videos around literally all the different versions of “Us” but also that you can disassociate those words. Felt best of both worlds for something meaningful if you look closely and also something that’s its own and you’ve never heard before.
Playing music by yourself is a relatively new concept coming in the past few 100 years. Modern music focuses on the expression of the individual, in light of the new branding/marketing world, but from orchestral to folk to salsa to traditional Eastern music, it’s a means to connection and community, feeling something together. Music is shared feelings and is so centered in culture because of the strong sense of connection.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Fools Gold’.
R: “Fools Gold is capturing the moment you go to the bar out of last-ditch loneliness, and one drink and one stranger at a time you come together to become the drunken joyous carefree mob. Buzzed and weightless amongst new friends, the sun comes up but you have no place to be, the moment feels endless.”
What is your songwriting process like?
R: “We tend to anchor to some melody or chords that move us then get over-inspired on the front production and try to pack too much in. It’s then a mishmash of adding different peoples’ vocals and samples to find something that feels original while still in a sonic palette that generally fits Every Us. It’s always different and is all about what keeps us inspired.”
How would you personally describe the music scene in NYC?
R: “It’s back. There are so many different sounds and scenes that weave together and there is an endless amount of musicians to play with and shows to fill. I’d have a hard time pinning down a specific sound as it depends on where you look but the hustle is everywhere. Even at the small shows you stumble into, I’m consistently blown away by how the bar is so high. Hidden gems galore.
