Artist Nyxen On Fascination With Music And New Single “Silence In Motion”

This Australian artist is back with another hit!

With over 35 Million streams on just Spotify alone, the singer-songwriter is great at truly captivating her audience. Ahead of her upcoming debut album entitled ‘PXNK’, Nyxen is here with the second-track release: ‘Silence In Motion’.

We had the amazing honor of talking with Nyxen about her upcoming album, Emily Haines, and more!

You recently came out with a song called Silence In Motion. What was your inspiration for that song?

N: The instrumentation of SIlence In Motion was originally inspired by the Jack Rabbit Slims dance scene in Pulp Fiction. I played that scene on repeat with the sound off while I was laying down the sonics. That’s how the idea of Silence In Motion came to me. How much we communicate through movement and how non vocalised thoughts/desires play out when you don’t action them.”

What drew you to be a Singer/Songwriter and being in the music industry?

N: “I’ve always been very fascinated by music, the way it ties itself to certain moments in your life and I guess at some point I decided to try and write my own soundtrack.”

On July 1st, You are coming out with your debut album called PXNK. What is the meaning behind the album?

N: “I can’t believe how close it is now, the album is heavily inspired by themes from the Cyberpunk genre, so I wanted to pay homage to that in the title. I wanted to make an album that explored my favorite Cyberpunk themes and sonic tones.”

Do you have a song that you wrote that stuck out to you the most?

N: “Each time I go through the process of finishing a song I feel like it’s my favorite. At the moment the song that resonates the most with me is Silence In Motion, it was the final song I finished for the album and I can still visualise the scenes I was thinking of when writing the lyrics.”

You have over 30 Million streams on Spotify alone! Did you ever expect so early on in your career to have so many streams?

N: It still blows my mind that people have listened to my music that much. I definitely didn’t expect it but I’m very grateful that so many people have escaped into my music for a moment.”

What inspires you to write your music; like personal experiences or etc?

N: “Everything inspires me to write, whether it be personal or something I’ve observed a friend experience. Writing music is the way I make sense of the world around me, I was never great at verbalising how I felt so I started making instrumental music that translated the emotion I was experiencing, it was from there that I started feeling comfortable adding words to those feelings. With music you can be very honest and still hide behind the way things are interpreted.”

Do you have anyone that you look up to as a Singer/Songwriter?

N: “My number one is Emily Haines, the way she writes is so interesting. She leaves a lot to interpretation and is very visual with her writing. It would be hard for me to make an honest top 10 of my favorite songs without it heavily featuring her work with Metric and Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton.”

When you are writing a song do you usually focus on the lyrics first or the music?

N: I usually write almost an entire instrumental before I really start to think about lyrics. Ideas will come as I’m laying down guitar and synth lines but I tend to write them down/ make a voice memo to come back to later.”

If you could collaborate with any Singer/Songwriter, who would it be?

N: “It would definitely be Emily Haines for all the reasons above. I would love to be a fly on the wall to observe her writing process, even better if I was actively writing with her.”
