This debut single is incredible!
This pop-artist is quickly becoming a rising singer to know in this industry. Now, with thousands of followers there to support her, Ada is here with her debut single entitled “Bell”.
We had the absolute honor of talking with Ada about her favorite hobbies, upcoming EP, and more!
What inspired you to want to pursue a career in music?
A: “Music has meant so much to me for the entirety of my life. It’s all I have ever thought about, consumed and worked on since birth it feels like sometimes. I didn’t take it very seriously as a career path though since I was so private and shy about it. I started considering it more seriously recently when I got encouragement from my friends and mentors. Music has always felt like a pipe dream for me and it sometimes still does. But I feel so lucky to get the opportunity to try it in a professional level.”
Tell us about your amazing debut single “Bell”. What is its meaning?
A: “Thank you for saying that. “Bell” means a lot to me. It was the first time I wrote something I was very proud of and I could show it to my friends and family without feeling too embarrassed or inferior or all those fun feelings of insecurity. It’s about feeling forgotten by someone and trying to come to terms with that. It’s a common and frequent feeling for me so I feel like it’s one of the few songs that I still relate to.“
What is your songwriting process usually like?
A: “It’s different every time so it’s exciting for me to see what would happen next. I usually try to write a least a verse and a chorus every day. If I like it, I keep writing it. If not, I put it in my back pocket and maybe try to come back to it later on. Sometimes, when I’m stuck, I go back to those recordings to see if there is any inspiration there. I see this whole process of writing every day as a way to decompress. I love the process so much that even if I don’t have an idea, I’ll try to write at least something. During the best times, songwriting for me is pretty spontaneous. It could be a lyric, melody or guitar riff that excites me or pops in my head and I start working from there.“
If you could collaborate with any artist for a song, who would it be and why?
A: “That question is so so so difficult. I admire so many people and I have an endless list of people I would be honored to work with. Right now, I can not stop listening to “Then I Try Some More” by Joanna Sternberg. I would love to work with them or even watch their process of writing a song like “This is Not Who I Want to Be.”
What has been your reaction to gaining positive feedback on your music already?
A: “I never showed anyone my songs because I was so insecure about them and having people be so kind has been a dream. I honestly never imagined sharing my songs to my mom, let alone letting a song live a streaming platform where anyone can find it. My mom has to be nice about it and other people definitely don’t have to so it’s nerve racking but I am so grateful that people have been welcoming so far.“
When not working on music, what are some of your favorite things to do?
A: “I have the interests of a retired 1st grade teacher. I love to crochet, read, walk my dog, sleep with my cat, watch niche documentaries and hang out with my friends. And, honestly, when I’m not working on my own music, I spend most of the time listening and freaking out over other people’s music. I watch Phoebe Bridger’s Brooklyn Steel performance every single morning. I don’t even try to have a good day.“
Can we expect more music from you in the near future?
A: “Definitely. I am finishing up my EP and I hope to release my second single sometime in August. I am really excited (and terrified) to put more songs out there. I hope someone enjoys them as much as I like making them.“
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
A: “My username is @adatheband on every platform (a nod to one of my favorite artist, Samia). & Ada Marques on every streaming platform!“
