This LA-Based singer is on our playlists once again!
With millions of streams/views on her music, singer Liddy Clark is quickly making her way into the music industry. Recently, the songwriter released her newest single “Nothing Like New York”. And let me just say: We’re obsessed
We had the amazing opportunity of talking with Liddy on musical theatre, music inspirations, and more!
Q: Ever since your first hit “Shot Down (Stand Up),” your music has been viral, especially on Tik Tok. Could you tell us a little bit more about your beginnings in music?
L: “Yes, I started off in music when I was 7, I performed “Colors of the Wind” from Pochahontas at my elementary school’s talent show and have been involved in music ever since. I did musical theater for a while when I was younger and then around the time I turned 13, I got my first guitar and learned how to write my own songs. It was something that I really felt passionate about doing, so I continued learning how to build an online presence and playing live shows with a band. Now I continue to keep writing songs that speak to me and love getting to put them out into the world.”
You have said before that when you talk about your relationship with music, the word “ connection” is usually present. What is the importance of that word in your life as a musician and as an artist?
L: “Connection is the key to everything with me, it’s what drives my music and my personal life as well. All I want to do in this life is know people and get to know myself. I want to be able to create art that makes people stop for a second and think about themselves and how they relate to these experiences. I sincerely hope that my messages come across through my music and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to do so.”
Do you have specific artists you pull your style/ inspiration from? Who do you look up to?
L: “So many! I grew up listening to country music, my family’s all from Texas, so I’d hear a collection of Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, and Kenny Chesney. Then I really got into Taylor Swift’s music when she came onto the scene, she’s still one of my biggest inspirations, as well as John Mayer, Julia Michaels, and Phoebe Bridgers.”
Q: Liddy, you are no stranger to large events and venues, such as the iHeart Country Music Summit in 2017. Do you have a favorite event or venue? And which would be your dream venue if you have one?
L: “I would love to play Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, truly anywhere that has beautiful scenery like that would be a dream.”
Q: What do you think is the future of music with the Gen Z generation?
L: “I think there’s more music than ever being created, which makes it a little difficult to sort through and find the songs that really speak to you, but I love how diverse music is becoming these days. Genre-bending is the new normal, and I think we’ll be seeing a lot of artists expressing themselves through trying different things.”
Q: Let’s talk a little bit about your latest single “ Nothing Like New York.” What inspired you to write this song?
L: “I had the title “Nothing Like New York” in my notes for a few years before I finally felt compelled to write it for a songwriting class in college. I came up with the first few lines initially and then the rest came super quickly after that. I’ve never personally been in a situation like I describe in the song, but I love to imagine different ways my life could turn out and try to write songs based on how I’d interpret it.“
Q: Did you feel like the pandemic brought out something new in your music? Or in your creative process?
L: “Definitely, it’s made me really take a hard look at what I want my artistry to be represented by. I’ve learned a lot of new production skills and have written more songs than ever, but it’s also nice to not put so much pressure on myself to constantly create while we’re living in a pandemic bubble.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
L: “I’d like to still be working in music, I don’t think I’ll ever stop wanting to be involved in.”
