Singer Cade Hoppe On The Industry, Avril Lavine, And Debut EP “Tell Me How It’s Worth It”

This new EP is headed straight for the charts!

Cade Hoppe is exactly what the indie-pop genre needed. With thousands of streams under his belt, he is back with his debut EP entitled “Tell Me How It’s Worth It”.

We had the absolute honor of talking with Cade on his music journey, his favorite song of his new release, and more!

Q: When did you first find your love of music?

“My first memory of being in love with music is driving around with my mom when I was two- or three-years old, listening to CDs from a huge collection we had strapped to the driver side sun visor.  The first album I think I ever knew front to back was Let Go by Avril Lavigne and I vividly remember always asking my mom to put that CD in so we could blast “Sk8er Boi”.  I still love that album.”

Q: Tell us about your debut EP ‘Tell Me How It’s Worth It”.

“Tell Me How It’s Worth It” tells the story of leaving someone or something behind for what you really want instead.  There are so many moving pieces in making that transition and this was the best attempt I could make at putting the feelings that come with all that into words.  The title comes from a recurring line in the focus single, “Borrowed Time,” and I chose to make it the title of the EP because it felt like the all-encompassing thesis for the project.  Between deciding to leave, actually leaving, being in between, finding something new, and accepting that you’ve finally made it, there are a lot of moments where you might have reason to wonder if it was all worth it; and even if deep down you know that it is worth it, sometimes it’s nice to hear it from someone else.  These five songs are a very honest telling of some of my feelings over the last year or so and I feel that they’re a fitting introduction to my sound as an artist that I’m proud to call my debut EP.”

Q: What is your favorite song off of your EP and why?

C: “My favorite song is probably “Afterparty”.  It was the last song that I wrote and the last that my producer, Harper James, and I made together for this EP; it ended up being my favorite songwriting and production of the five songs.  It also happens to be the only song I had a co-writer for— my girlfriend and artist in her own right, Maddie Regent.”

Q: How has the music industry been treating you so far?

C: “The music industry has been very welcoming, and it’s been a dream to be a part of it.  The barriers to entry are lower than ever, but competition is high and staying power is a lot tougher to get.  I’m willing to do whatever it takes, though, because I fully plan on doing this for the rest of my life.”

Q: Who is your biggest music inspiration and why?

C: “My biggest all-around music inspiration is Taylor Swift.  You can tell that she just cares so much about everything she does—from the lyrics to the melodies, to the visuals, to the concerts, etc.—and she’s so talented at it all.  There aren’t many people in the industry that are better to look up to than her.”

Q: What is your songwriting process like?

C: “Each song’s writing process happens just a little bit differently and that’s one of the biggest things I love about songwriting.  When I start writing a song, I start on piano, guitar, or I build a demo track in Logic and I go from there; I usually have a lyric that I like or a feeling I want to write about, as well.  I do my best to always keep my phone handy because I never know when inspiration will strike, and I need my notes or voice memos app.  I can get inspiration at any time, but when I sit down to actually write a song, I’m very superstitious and I have to wear my glasses.  It’s a strange thing, but I’ve never written a song without wearing glasses—that’s the one constant across every song’s writing process.”

Q: What are your biggest goals for your music career?

C: “I guess my biggest goals are to play stadiums and headline festivals and win Grammys, like any artist, but those aren’t the immediate next step goals for my career.  I’m not afraid to dream big and I believe that I will achieve dreams that might feel impossible now because at one point releasing an EP felt impossible.  So I’m just working hard, taking things one day at a time, and trusting the process.”
