Jeffrey James On Influences, Nashville, And New EP “Songs I Found In The Year I Lost”

This singer-songwriter just released the EP of the year!

Jeffrey James has captured our hearts in his lyrics, especially when we saw him on the big screen. A lovable singer on NBC’s ‘Songland’, and over 2 million streams on his music, Jeffrey is back with brand new EP entitled “Songs I Found In The Year I Lost”.

We had the absolute honor of talking with Jeffrey on his music journey, the new EP, and his biggest goals for his career!

Q: What first started your love of music?

J: “My earliest memory of the joy that music can bring is singing Beatles tunes at the top of my lungs on long car rides along with my parents and two sisters. My parents instilled in me a deep love of melody and harmony and the power of a song.”

Q: Tell us about your upcoming EP “Songs I Found In The Year I Lost”.

J: “This is an EP that never would have been made had 2020 not happened. Like most of us, last year forced me to learn new ways to collaborate, work, and connect with others. I brought together some of my fave producers and co-writers in London, Los Angeles, and Nashville. All using zoom, audio movers, and our respective recording studios/bedrooms. I made a multi-city, multi-continental, EP all from the comfort of my house in East Nashville. Most days, wearing my pajamas…”

Q: What is your favorite song off of the EP and why?

J: “I don’t play favorites with my children… but ‘Making It Up’ holds a special place in my heart. It’s based on a real pic of my dad and I. In the photo, he’s the same age that I am now. When I learned that, it made me wonder what his mindset was at my age. When we are young, we think our parents have it all figured out. Which is rarely the case. But most people don’t realize that till they become adults. Anyway, I had all this in my head and it came pouring out in the song.”

Q: What has been your reaction to have received over 1 Million streams so far?

J: “It’s a dream to have people all over the world listening to and connecting with my music. I make music for myself, but with the hope that someone else will understand me. And, it seems, people do!”

Q: What is the Nashville music scene like?

J: “Nashville is a pretty unique place.”

Q: Who are your biggest music inspirations and why?

J: “My influences are pretty broad. I love David Byrne from the Talking Heads. His songs and live performances are always so unique and specific to his art. But also, acts like Janelle Monae, Bill Withers, Jon Bellion, Coldplay, and Glass Animals have all been big inspirations to me at one time or another.”

Q: What are your biggest goals for your career? Maybe a tour?

J: “An international tour would be right at the top of my list!”
