Bella Lam On Performing Live And Her New Country Girl Anthem “Take It Out On My Guitar”

A country music artist you need to know!

Bella Lam is the relatable singer-songwriter that you’ve been looking for. A professional in helping us navigate our complicated romantic relationships, and her brand-new single “Take It Out On My Guitar”, that just released today, is the breakup anthem of the year.

We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Bella about her dream venues to perform at, advice to aspiring artists, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a professional career in music?

B: “Music has always been a part of me. Performing has always been in my soul. As soon as I could walk, I would give impromptu performances for my family and neighbors. I used to dance on the kitchen table. My grandma would joke, “I hope she doesn’t do that for a living.” At my kindergarten career day, I showed up dressed as a popstar, with a pink fuzzy boa and sparkly bell-bottoms.

I did everything musical when I was growing up: musical theatre, church choir, The Star-Spangled Banner at sporting events. I took piano, guitar, and drum lessons. I wrote songs. Playing Carl Perkins’ guitar at the Rockabilly Hall of Fame was a big moment that cemented it for me; if a young man from West Tennessee could make such a huge mark on music, then I could too, but I knew music was going to be my life long before then.”

Congratulations on your amazing new single ‘Take It Out On My Guitar’! Can you walk us through how this bop came to be?

B: “Thank you! I wrote this song with Lauren McLamb and Chris Rafetto. I remember I had a list of song titles, and one of them was ‘Take It Out On My Guitar’. It kind of stuck out to all three of us. I already knew I wanted to write a bad-ass country girl anthem, and that’s exactly what we came out with. Paying homage to the greats before me: Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert.”

Your breakup hotline idea for this song was genius! What made you want to do it?

B: “I’ll be so honest, I’ve been on such a Reddit stories kick. I think a lot of the internet is right now. I’ll be scrolling on TikTok and find myself stopped on an “Am I The Asshole?” post. They’re so addictive, and with the nature of this song, I thought it would be perfect!”

You are always on the road performing! What do you enjoy the most when performing live?

B: “I really love interacting with the fans. I love putting a smile on their faces and giving them a
show to remember, and I put on one hell of a show – I leave everything out there. That’s what I
always look forward to.”

We are obsessed with these mini vlogs you do of your performances! Can fans expect more fun clips of behind the scenes?

B: “Oh absolutely! I love my vlogs, and I doubt I’ll ever stop them. It’s such an easy way for the fans to get a peek inside my life. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes with touring and making music. Plus, it gives me a way to interact with fans that I’ll never get a chance to meet. And, I have so much fun filming and editing them!”

If you had to name one, what would be your dream venue to perform at?

B: “There is so much I want to do at this point in my career; my bucket list is far from being complete. I’d love to play Carnegie Hall, or Madison Square Garden, The Bridgestone, tour Europe or Japan, and play in Chicago or Los Angeles. But I guess if I have to choose one place, it would have to be The Grand Ole Opry! It’s The Mother Church, and for me, that’s the ultimate goal. Let me tell you, I’m working my behind off to get on that stage. I know I’ll get there.”

From your early days in 2021 with songs like ‘Move On’ and ‘Try Harder’ to now, how do you think you’ve grown as an artist?

B: “I was 17 when I put those songs out. I was still in high school, and I’ve lived a lot since then. I’ve been writing songs every day. I’ve played hundreds of shows, worked with numerous musicians, traveled to other cities near and far, met hundreds of people, and practiced thousands of hours. I’ve grown as a person, an artist, a singer, and a songwriter. Although I’m very proud of my earlier songs for what they were. ‘Tears In My Tequila’ and ‘Take It Out On My Guitar’ are in a completely different league.”

What is the best piece of advice you can give to young girls who are inspired by you and want to aspire to be a part of the music industry?

B: “Don’t give up! It’s a bit cliché, but so important. My life now was an impossible dream to me when I was younger. I was born prematurely, and I had a breathing tube as an infant to survive. Because of that, I grew up with a severe lisp, and I really struggled with my fine motor skills. I went through years of speech and occupational therapy before I could do simple things like tie my shoelaces or speak clearly. Now, I sing, write songs, and play guitar. I have tons of support from my parents, family, and friends. I can always count on God to be there for me. But I haven’t given up on my dream, and neither should you. Whatever it is you want to be, today’s impossible dream could become tomorrow’s reality.”
