Weekly Home Check Founder Kyshawn Lane Gives His Best Cleaning Advice To Homeowners

Your cleaning hero is here!

You’ve probably seen Kyshawn’s videos pop up on your for you page, and you aren’t alone. Known for his extremely helpful Weekly Home Check Series, he’s one of the go-to content creators teaching first-time home buyers how to maintaine their house with ease.

We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Kyshawn about building his online community, and more!

How did you initially decide to start learning and becoming educated in everything home, lifestyle, and cleanliness?

K: My journey began when I realized just how expensive it is to hire contractors for every home repair! Growing up, I wasn’t handy at all, and I initially thought I’d outsource all the work that needed to be done at all times. However, I quickly learned that something will always need attention in a home. Curiosity took over, and I started learning DIY skills, eventually gaining the confidence to take care of my home and everything in it.”

When did you first consider becoming a content creator and sharing your tips and tricks with others?

K:It started when I created the 52-week home maintenance checklist for myself. As I worked through it weekly, I thought, “Could there be others that might benefit from this?” So, I created my first video, Emergency Equipment, in week 30, which garnered around 100 views and 25 followers, but people were genuinely interested. Some even asked for earlier weeks-that motivated me to keep going. Six months later, I would have 1 million followers. I’m grateful that I kept it going.”

You now have over 2 Million followers on social media and have become the go-to influencer for home and health tips! What has been your reaction to your success?

K: “I am still so mind-blown at the success. I love the community I’ve built, and I’m humbled by the stories they share. It’s motivating to see how home maintenance can positively impact people’s lives, and I’m truly grateful to be a part of it.”

We have to shout out these cooking/baking recipes you do every once in a while (those cinnamon rolls looked delicious!) Are videos of you in the kitchen something fans can expect more of in the future?

K: “Why not throw in a video using that oven that we’ve worked so hard to clean and maintain? It’s really all part of being a homeowner and loving your home. I enjoy baking and sharing recipes with the homies. There may be a few more of my favorite dishes down the line, especially as the holidays approach. I think my audience will enjoy them.”

What is your best advice to people who realize that they haven’t been doing the right maintenance on their home and want to make cleaning more of a priority?

K: “Don’t be discouraged; before owning my home, I didn’t even own a basic tool kit; I learned so much by doing, and having a plan makes all the difference. Homeownership may seem overwhelming, but find a rhythm that works for you, whether it’s weekly, monthly, or seasonal checks, and that will get the ball rolling.”

Where can we follow more of your amazing journey?

K: “Join me and the community of homies on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube @weeklyhomecheck, where I share my weekly home maintenance tasks. Come join the conversation!”
