A pop artist that you need to know!
Every single that Rexford has released thus far deserves a spot on your go-to playlist, especially her newest release ‘Seventeen Memories’.
We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Rexford about her EP ‘Clear My Heart, her favorite travel destinations thus far, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
R: “I always wanted to be a musician. My mom says, “I could sing before I could talk.” Growing up, I was always the most comfortable when singing on stage. I was very introverted growing up, but always felt safe expressing myself through music.”
How did you come up with your stage name Rexford?
R: “I used to live on “Rexford Drive” in Beverly Hills. Before moving to that home, I was releasing music under my name, Sarah Tromley. I had a beautiful “forced pause” in my life when I moved to Rexford—my health wasn’t 100% and so I had to take a mini hiatus from music. While pausing and healing, I felt no longer connected to my old sound. I wanted a fresh slate where I could tell my stories from a more raw and honest perspective. I decided to do an artist rebrand and it only felt appropriate to give an ode to my home that helped me heal; and so Rexford was born.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Seventeen Memories’.
R: “My EP, Clear My Heart, was mostly poems or letters turned into song. After releasing a very personal and heart felt collection of songs, I wanted to write something light and nostalgic. I absolutely love working with George (Twin Shadow). We wrote “Seventeen Memories” in one session. The words just flowed. It was inspired by a good friend of ours—she is five feet tall, which is why there is the lyric, “and all in all we’re 10 foot 3”.”
If you had to choose, what is your favorite song you have released so far and why?
R: “Currently, “Seventeen Memories” has my heart. I think it’s a good sign it’s stuck in my head and I’m not sick of it yet. I’m gearing up to release a music video soon, and my team and I couldn’t be more excited. This song has set the stage for a bold new sound, and I can’t wait to share what’s coming next!”
We see that you love to travel! Where would you say is your all-time favorite or dream travel destination?
R: “I definitely have the travel bug. Favorite place I’ve been so far…Paris or Capri. On my list…Tokyo and Cape Town.”
