An artist you need to know!
For those who wish Halloween was all-year round, you have got to listen to Quill’s Oct. 31 release ‘Ghost’. as well as the rest of her discography. Her amazing vocals paired with her dauntless personality, makes for a great artist to become a fan of.
We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Quill about her fashion sense, thriller films, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Q: “I think the seed was planted during my childhood when I would sing and take piano lessons. My father hosted events, and performing at those was my way of connecting with people and expressing myself. But it wasn’t until my pre-teen years, battling with identity crises, depression, and anxiety, that I truly realized music was more than just a hobby – it was my lifeline. Writing and performing became my way of processing emotions and finding my voice. That’s when I knew I wanted to pursue music as a career, to not only save myself but to potentially help others who might be feeling the same way.”
Tell us more about how your amazing new single ‘Ghosts’ came to be.
Q: “Ghosts’ is a deeply personal track for me. It came from a place of feeling lost and hollow after chasing love and validation from others, only to end up alone. I started writing it during a particularly tough time when I was grappling with these emotions and trying to find my footing again in a new city. The song evolved as I poured more of my childhood experiences and reflections into it. It’s about acknowledging suppressed feelings and being okay with just being alone sometimes. It’s the opening to a larger project that explores themes of self-discovery and healing.”
The single was released on Halloween! We have to ask: What is your all-time favorite Halloween film?
Q: “I know it might sound off, but I don’t really watch Halloween movies or celebrate the holiday. I’m
more of a suspense sort of girl. I love films that keep you on the edge of your seat, like
psychological thrillers. They capture my interest more and often provide the kind of emotional
depth and intensity that I gravitate towards in my own music.”
If you had to choose, what is your favorite song you have released so far and why?
Q: “That would definitely be ‘Ghosts’. It’s my favorite because it’s so raw and honest. The song captures a very vulnerable part of my journey, and I think it resonates with a lot of people who’ve felt lost or empty at some point. Every time I perform it, I feel like I’m sharing a piece of my soul with the audience, and the connection that creates is incredibly powerful.”
Who would you credit as some of your biggest music inspirations?
Q: “Taylor Swift and Amy Lee are definitely at the top of the list. Taylor’s storytelling, ability to maintain a deep connection with her core audience, and evolution as an artist are incredibly inspiring. Amy Lee’s powerful vocals and emotional depth resonate deeply with me. I also have a deep love for old jazz, artists like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Peggy Lee. Their timeless voices and the way they conveyed emotion through their music have had a huge impact on me. Combining these diverse influences has helped shape my unique sound and approach to music.”
Can we talk about your fashion sense for a second? The looks you post on social media are incredible! What has your fashion journey been like in both a career and personal standpoint?
Q: “Thank you! Fashion has always been another form of self-expression for me. My fashion sense is very much a reflection of my presence and the duality within me. I often dress in dark colors to represent the emotional side of me, the tougher exterior. But then you’ll find little articles of more elegant clothing underneath – these pieces symbolize the fragile, vulnerable part of me. I like to address these contrasting parts of myself in my style. Moving to Los Angeles really allowed me to embrace a bolder, more eclectic fashion sense. In my career, fashion plays a huge role in how I present myself on stage and in public. It’s about creating a persona that feels true to who I am and resonates with my audience. It’s been a fun and liberating journey, finding ways to visually express the same emotions and stories that I share through my music.”
What would you say has been the most validating moment of your career thus far?
Q: “One of the most validating moments was definitely performing at Breaking Sound and seeing the audience genuinely connect with my music. There’s nothing like the energy of a live show, and feeling that immediate, raw response from the crowd was incredibly affirming. It was a reminder that what I’m doing matters, that my music is reaching people and making an impact. It’s moments like that which fuel my passion and drive to keep creating.”
