Elijah Woods Talks About His Grammy Goal And Favorite Track From New EP ‘Hey There Elijah’

One of our favorite Canadian artists!

If you’ve been looking for a single who has an unskipable discography, then Elijah Woods is one of our first recommendations. Everything he has released is incredible, especially the tracks in his new EP ‘Hey There Elijah’.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Elijah about his gratitude for his success, the meaning behind his single “last girl”, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?

E: “I think I first realized I want to pursue a career in music when I was about 14. I had started DJing around that time and it was all I wanted to do — I’d started blowing off my basketball games just to have more time creating mixes at home. DJing led to music production which led to songwriting, and it all spiraled out from there!”

Tell us more about your amazing upcoming EP, ‘Hey There Elijah’.

E: “I feel super excited about the release of Hey There Elijah. The project has been really transformative for me and represents a next chapter for me, both personally and artistically. I think this music speaks to everything I’ve been through in the last year or so—both the good and the bad—and finding myself within all that. I’m really excited about this next era of my sound and I can’t wait to hear what people think!”

If you had to choose, what is your favorite song on the EP and why?

E: “My favorite song on the EP changes everyday! My favorite currently is “Sunlight!” It’s a beautiful day and I’m sitting outside currently so “Sunlight!” feels like the perfect fit.”

You have millions of streams on just Spotify alone! What has been your reaction to your success?

E: “I’m just incredibly grateful more than anything. I feel incredibly fortunate that I’ve been able to find success doing something I love. There are so many extremely talented artists out there who don’t have a chance to be seen, so I never take my success for granted!”

What do you enjoy the most about performing live? What has been your favorite performing memory thus far?

E: “I LOVE performing live. I think one of my favorite things about performing live is seeing people’s faces when they’re hearing a song they love live for the first time. It gives my songs new lease on life. It’s wild when you have an audience singing along to songs you wrote in your basement or bedroom.

A specific memory that stands out to me is when I played a show and this young girl gave me a letter she’d written me. I just re-read it a few weeks ago and it was all about how my music had helped her while she was grieving her brother, which is something I have experience with too. Music can be so transformative and it gives me a lot of comfort knowing that something I create can make somebody feel seen when they’re going through tough experiences.”

You said that opening for Niall Horan was a dream that you wrote down, that came true. Manifestation powers understood, what is a new goal that you are speaking into existence?

E: “The next goal I’m manifesting is a Grammy nomination. While that might seem a little ridiculous to say, I genuinely do believe a Grammy nomination could be in the cards for me in this next chapter of music!”

Congratulations on your marriage! If you could describe your relationship with Hannah with one song, your song or not, what would it be?

E: “I think the song that describes my relationship with Hannah is a song called “last girl.” I wrote it about the moment I knew she was the person I wanted to be with for the rest of my life. That song sums up all the gushy feelings I have for her.”
