A star on the rise!
Katherine Ro is quickly becoming a face that you are going to see on your TV screens more and more. From ‘The Terminal List’ to ‘First Wives Club’, we can’t wait to see where her career goes from here.
We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Katherine about her most validating moment in her career thus far, how she would handle her kids wanting to pursue the entertainment industry, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in entertainment?
K: “I was around 5 or 6 when I first fell in love with the performances in The Sound of Music and Gone with the Wind. I would ask my parents to play those films every day, and soon enough, I was reenacting scenes in our living room—complete with outfits and everything! That was the moment I knew performing was something I wanted to do forever.”
You’ve been featured in several major TV shows and amazing short films! What has been your favorite filming experience yet?
K: “While I truly enjoy being on almost any set, my favorite experience has to be working on a short film called Hybrid, which was written and directed by my husband. I may have played a small part in the creative process, which probably adds to why it’s so close to my heart. Independent films have this incredible freedom that allows you to explore creativity without limitations. That kind of artistic freedom fuels my passion for the craft.”
What has been the most validating moment of your career thus far?
K: “One of the most validating moments in my career was being asked to audition for a supporting lead in a major show. Even though I knew the odds were stacked against me—after all, I’m not yet a household name, and I was a bit younger than the role required—the experience was empowering. Although I didn’t get the role, the feedback I received was incredibly encouraging. Simply having the opportunity to throw my hat in the ring was a pivotal moment, and it gave me a major confidence boost.”
You are a boy mom of two sons! Would you encourage your kids to also pursue a career in entertainment if they became interested?
K: “Absolutely! I would encourage them, but under similar conditions to what my parents set for me. For their peace of mind (and mine), I’d want them to be a bit older, with a strong sense of self-worth and confidence before entering the industry. I’d also want them to feel empowered to speak up and advocate for themselves when needed. Education would remain a priority, just like my parents emphasized for me—so long as they work hard in school, I’ll fully support their extracurricular interests, whether in entertainment or otherwise. I want to model the same for our boys.”
How important do you believe diversity is in the entertainment industry?
K: “Diversity is essential. It’s part of everyday life, so it should be reflected accurately in the media we consume. In my opinion, true representation can help bridge gaps in communication and understanding. It’s not just about opening doors for more stories to be told, but also about creating equality and fostering learning opportunities for everyone.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
K: “Instagram is my go-to! It’s like my live journal and scrapbook, where I share the highlights of my life—my family, our wins, and our challenges. I’d love for you to follow along: @thekatherinero.”
