This Australian artist has got to be on your favorite playlist!
Lark is known for her confidence-boosting, feel-good music and her recent single ‘Stars’ is no exception. In fact, we think it’s her best song yet!
We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Lark about the live music changes in Australia, the most meaningful song she’s released so far, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
L: “I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a performer. I would put on lunchtime concerts for my friends at school, wearing costumes that my Mum made for me (at my request!). As soon as I finished high school, I hit the stage full time and haven’t looked back since!”
We have got to talk about your amazing new single ‘Stars’! Can you tell us about the meaning behind it and how it came to be?
L: “Thank you so much, I’m so glad you like it, that makes me so happy!! I have such a busy life trying to balance a full-time job, being a wife and a mother and also pursuing my music career. It all came to a head at around 3am one morning when I was emailing radio stations with my latest song, and I fell asleep at the computer. When I woke up the next morning, this song was born. It’s all about what I was feeling at that time, where I really wanted to be, and a wakeup call to keep going, not matter what.”
If you had to choose, what has been your favorite song you have released so far and why?
L: “They are all so special because they’re all so personal, but I think the one that is most meaningful to me is “I’m With You.” I wrote this song for my daughter so that she will always have something special from me, even when I’m gone, and that I’ll always have her back no matter what. I wanted the song to empower her to stand up for, and believe in, herself.”
You have had some major accomplishments in your career thus far, from multiple award nominations to hitting the top of the charts. What has been the most validating moment for you thus far?
L: “I just won two 2024 International Singer Songwriters Association awards for best international female music video of the year, and single of the year for my song, “Good Good Energy.” ISSA has over 25,000 members and received thousands of nominations which went through a fan voting process, then the finalists were judged by music peers, so I am incredibly honored to have won these awards. I was also blown away that so many other artists at the awards show knew me and my song. I have two validating crystal trophies in my little carry-on suitcase to take home with me!! Topping the world and Euro indie music charts for the first time, and actually every other time, has also been incredibly validating.”
How would you personally describe the music scene in Australia?
L: “In terms of live music, I feel like it has changed from the good old days where every venue had a live act playing most nights of the week as well as the good old Sunday Sessions. In Australia, a lot of music festivals are being cancelled, things are rapidly changing and I’m not sure where it’s going to end up. I’m currently in Nashville and walking down Broadway with live bands and the music filling the streets energized me like you wouldn’t believe. In terms of recording artists, there are some really exciting independent artists on the rise in Australia, in all different genres. I am mostly discovering them through social media and community radio broadcasters and independent publications, who are so supportive of indie artists!”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
