This 13-year-old is incredible!
She may be young, but we think that Piper Connolly could hold her own with the rest of the pop/rock artists out there. Especially, after you hear her newest single ‘muse’, which needs to be added to your favorite playlist.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Piper about the music scene in Arizona, performing live, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
P: “Well, I always knew I wanted to be a performer- that wasn’t even a conscious choice I made; it just “was”. The moment I fell in love with being a musician, however, was probably my first big show- it was a KISS vs Alice Cooper Tribute concert when I was 6 years old. I was doing lead vocals for a number of songs in the show. Both of those artists are very theatrical and I fell in love with the drama of it all and the idea of telling a story through music. I decided then that music was what I wanted to do with my life.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘muse’.
P: “Thank you! “muse,” as most of my songs are, is based on a real-life situation I was dealing with-a one-sided crush. It was someone I was collaborating with creatively, and had been for some time. We collaborated really well together so I needed to decide if I was going to suck it up in favor of working with this person, or get caught up in my feelings and lose this creative partnership. I decided to suck it up! It wasn’t easy but it was the best choice for everyone involved. BTW, no, I did not write ‘muse’ with this person- for anyone trying to trace the breadcrumbs!”
You perform all of the time! What do you enjoy the most about performing live?
P: “The electricity!! My favorite thing in the entire world is performing live. To have people sing along with you and dance and jump around is just amazing. It is as if the crowd’s energy charges me and I love that so much. There really isn’t anything else like it for me.”
Who would you credit as your biggest music inspirations?
P: “My biggest musical inspirations are Freddie Mercury & Queen, Luke Spiller (of The Struts), Hayley Williams & Paramore, Dave Grohl and Melanie Martinez. I’m also sort of obsessed with Kurt Cobain at the moment– so, I’m really into Nirvana and listening to all of their albums!”
How would you personally describe the music scene in Arizona?
P: “Super diverse. Arizona has given the world the likes of Chester Bennington, Jimmy Eat World, Alice Cooper, among other legends– so it’s clear we have a thriving mainstream and underground scene and all sorts of genres and blends. You’d be hard-pressed to find a night without some great music to find- whether it be at one of our amazing venues or festivals.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
P: “I’d love that! The easiest way to find all my socials is through my website hernameispiperconnolly.com.”
Make sure to stream ‘muse’, available now on all music platforms!
