We just listened to one of our new favorite albums of the year.
And no, we are not talking about Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Short n’ Sweet’, we are talking about ‘SHE’, the debut album from incredible music artist Klemntyna
We had the pleasure of speaking with Klemntyna about FemZquared, finding her unique sound in her music, and more!
Tell us more about your amazing debut album ‘SHE’.
K: “SHE talks about the ups and downs of navigating the world while coming of age. It’s an 11-track album which took almost 5 years to finish! I started writing it in 2019 right before the pandemic, so most songs on the album were written in 2020 and after, and talk about my life exploring my early 20s, navigating personal growth, ambition, and relationships. The album was written entirely by me, with an exception of a few co-writes, and produced by my friend and artist/producer Jake Tavill at his Brooklyn-based studio, Indigo Soul NYC.”
This might be hard, but if you had to choose, what is your favorite song from the album and why?
K: “A lot of people have asked me this question and it’s always so hard to answer as I truly like every song on the album! 🙂 “IN LOVE” is one of my most personal songs and I have always enjoyed performing it live. I think it has a very unique sound and tells a very emotional, authentic story. I’d probably pick this song if I had to choose one, however, every song is slightly different and has its own story. I’d highly encourage anyone who might be reading this to listen to the entire album!”
We love your duet with Jake Tavill! Who would be your dream artist to collab with next?
K: “Thank you! I have so many! One of my favorite artists right now is a London-born singer/songwriter, RAYE. I would truly love to collaborate with her as I admire her songwriting, as well as singing. I also think our influences are similar and we could write a really awesome song together. There are also a lot of other artists that I have forever looked up to like Beyonce – I would truly love to work with her one day in the future!”
How much do you think you’ve grown both musically and personally since the early beginnings of your career (we still love your ‘Brooklyn Boi’ era!)?
K: “Thank you so much!! I definitely think I have grown a lot since releasing “Brooklyn Boi.” When I worked on that song, I was still trying to figure out my own, unique sound. With SHE I think I have begun to find it. My songwriting has also developed significantly! It’s always been very personal, but I definitely got out of my comfort zone on my debut album and the experiences I’ve been through, as well as reflections I’ve had, have been much more mature.”
What is the best piece of advice you can give to young girls who may be struggling with the pressures and anxiety from social media?
K: “I love this question! Social media has always been a bit triggering to me. I’m still working on figuring out a way to make it have less of an impact on me and my mental health, but something that has helped me has been limiting the amount of time I spend scrolling as well as talking to my friends about it. In 2020, I also started an online collective called FemZquared focused on empowering Gen Z women on social media through storytelling, with the intention of spreading more authenticity through inspiring stories. We’ve had hundreds of girls and women share short stories about their work and personal life in an attempt to inspire other women to do the same and learn to appreciate daily accomplishments, as well as their achievements thus far. If you’d like to get inspired, I’d love to invite you to check out our IG at @femzquared.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
K: “You can follow me on almost every social media platform at @klemntyna. I’m most active on TikTok and Instagram! You can also check out my website at klemntyna.com for info about me and my music, and if you’d like to listen to my debut album, you can find it on any streaming service like Spotify and Apple Music. Check out ffm.to/she for more!”
Make sure to stream ‘SHE’, available now on all music platforms!
