Truly a double threat!
Following a successful acting career, Emily Ricks has navigated the music industry and is quickly becoming one of our favorite artists, especially after the release of her newest single ‘Call It Falling’.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Emily about connecting with fans through music, the Toy Story fandom, and more!
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘CALL IT FALLING’.
E: “I wrote “Call it Falling” when I was feeling soooooo disillusioned by love. I was just at a time where I really was like “dang, falling in love really does simultaneously feel like falling flat on your face.” There’s so much confusion, learning and chaos that happens when we’re in love, and that is messy! Those feelings led me to my guitar like they usually do (lol). I wrote the first verse and chorus in one night on my bedroom floor. I remember bringing the idea to my producer, Brad Allen, the next morning and he loved the rough little recording I had on my phone. From there, we finished writing it, and he turned it into the synth driven, bass heavy tune that it is today :).”
This might be hard, but what has been your favorite song you have released so far and why?
E: “Agh! Honestly, it is a bit like choosing between children, but like every songwriter, my favorite song is always the last one I wrote, so I’m gonna go with “Call it Falling.” I love the frenetic energy of it. It was really a new sound for me to tap into. The song is the fastest I’ve ever written too with a bpm of 145. I just really love that it’s filled with a bunch of feminine rage :).”
Looking back on your life thus far, what would you tell 10-year-old Emily?
E: “Omg, such a good question. I would tell her life is going to look a lot different than you would ever think, but don’t worry it will still be great. You will make it through the darkness. Enjoy the journey. Don’t worry so much. Lastly, that music will be your constant companion and the thing that allows you to survive so keep writing those silly lyrics!”
Do you get tired of people discussing Toy Story 3 or do you welcome it with open arms?
E: “I didn’t have social media till I was 18 cause I seriously didn’t understand it at all and kinda prefer to isolate. I was super shocked when I got on it to see how many people still connected with Bonnie and specifically wanted to know more about my experience. I still feel so honored anytime someone is curious or asks questions. I don’t mind it at all!”
How does it feel reading the comments on your music posts and seeing so many people
appreciating your music and overall content on a deep level?
E: “Aw! It means so much! Truly, one person saying they connected to the music completely makes my day. I just get so giddy and happy when I receive messages like that. It means the world to me. I really love when someone shares a bit of their story and how the music connected to it personally for them.“
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
E: “I post everything on social media! I am everywhere under the username @imemilyricks.”
