She needs to be on your favorite Spotify playlist!
If you wished that Ariana Grande made more disco music, then you need to start listening to Beth Brandy ASAP. The music artist has managed to release bop after bop, and her debut EP ‘Double Standards’ is no exception.
We had the amazing honor of speaking with Beth about her future goals, golden retrievers, and more!
What do you hope to make people feel or think with your music?
B: “I want my audience to always be able to play my songs, whatever mood they might be feeling. Hence why I have a different range of songs, with different meanings. In my lead single ‘Double Standards’. I’m truly just trying to be funny & cheeky by taking the mick out of myself having double standards. “Irresponsible” is all about letting go and having fun! I would hope with these songs the listener would feel like not taking life so seriously, would relax and feel uplifted. I do also have delicate and emotional songs such as ‘Butterflies’ and ‘Magic’, that talk about the positives of love, so I would want the listener to feel excited for love or feel appreciative of the love they may have.”
What was your inspiration behind your new EP ‘Double Standards’?
B: “When I first wanted to create this EP, I came in with wanting to create music that felt like Ariana Grande hopped on a Silk Sonic beat, so funky, disco beats were the driving force behind this EP. Writing fun and lighthearted narratives were also extremely key, as I wanted people to enjoy my music no matter how they’re feeling.”
If you could choose your favorite song from the EP, what one would it be?
B: “That’s such a difficult question! ‘Irresponsible’ is the pop funk song of my dreams but ‘Butterflies’ has the most beautiful ending. But there’s something so special about ‘Double Standards’—the narrative of the song. I don’t really hear many artists take the mick out of themselves, and this record is a fun and lighthearted take on someone in a relationship acknowledging the fact that they can sometimes think they’re always right, and can be bossy and headstrong. In the pre hook I say, “you should love whatever I like, you know when I’m wrong, I’m still right” — I’m making it aware how difficult I am. But in the hook, I follow it up with, “don’t you feel so lucky? That you get to love me” showing I’m taking the mick out of
how almost unlucky he is that he gets to love me, which is completely and utterly me mocking myself.”
How did you feel when you blew up on Tiktok overnight for your cover of “Bang Bang” where you hit the infamous high note?
B: “Confused! I really didn’t expect the video to blow up the way it did, it was surreal to watch the numbers go up and up. I was really overwhelmed and flattered people thought I pulled it off and that some people even thought I was lip-synching over THE Ariana Grande (I wasn’t!). Is that a compliment or what?!”
What are your future goals regarding your personal life and your professional life?
B: “A massive bed and 5 golden retrievers will do. Forget singing..that’s the ultimate goal—joking! More and more music, all I want to do is sing and create music that gives you goosebumps. Tour worldwide, have people listen to my music and relate to it, make people feel better. My own personal goals.. I’d love to be comfortable enough to be able to fund orphanages in LIC’s. I’d love to try my best to better children’s lives in any way I can.”
What is something you have learned from your experiences so far and will take with you throughout your career?
B: “Be receptive to advice and don’t let yourself get in the way of things.. however… trust your gut, your gut is absolutely right.”
If you could describe your life motto in three words, what would it be?
B: “Keep moving forward.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
B: “@Bethbrandy.. everywhere. Except TikTok, someone’s got that handle and won’t do a little swap so that’s incredibly inconvenient.. so it’s @beth.brandy.”
