Jean Deaux Names Her Dream Music Collabs And Talks About Her New Single ‘Dreamin’

An icon on the rise!

With countless bops and an amazing voice, Jean Deaux is exactly what the music industry needs. She recently a song titled ‘Dreamin’, and it is probably our favorite song yet.

We had the amazing honor of speaking with Jean about the black queer community, her upcoming EP, and more!

When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?

J: “I didn’t exactly realize. I had been making music for fun and got the attention of some record companies overseas. By my senior year in high school, I got a deal offered to me. That was the first time it became real for me.”

Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Dreamin’.

J: “Dreamin just felt like a breath of fresh air. It really reminded me of a sound I chased when I originally created music. It just felt like time traveling to falling in love with creating music, it was an easy song to write and I loved it before I even recorded it.”

If you had to choose, what is your favorite song you have released so far and why?

J: “I don’t believe I have ONE favorite. I think every song I release has been my favorite at one point. Every time I create something new I’m in love with it. And maybe that’s my favorite thing about all my music.”

You have far surpassed the impressive Spotify milestone of 100 Million streams! What has been your reaction to your success?

J: “Thank you. I don’t consider numbers or sales to define my success. The moment creating became an avenue that could take me to unforgettable experiences and opportunities, that was the moment I became successful in my eyes. However, I’m so proud of the impact and how my audience has grown authentically and organically.”

You’ve collaborated with everyone from Kehlani to Kari Faux. Who would you love to collab with next?

J: “I love collabs that happen naturally. But I would love to get in the studio with Solange or Andre
3000, that would be a dream.”

How important do you think POC and Queer representation is in the music industry?

J: “I think representation period is so important. But specifically for those that have been bothered (the black queer community especially) deserve to be seen and immortalized like anyone else. Denial of representation is erasure. And the POC and Queer communities will never be erased, so get over it you know?”

We are so excited about your upcoming EP! Can you tease what fans can expect?

J: “I’m really circling back to an older sound and I’m really excited about returning to the beginning.
Time can move in cycles and when you’re learning the same lessons on newer levels you can get lost in it. This ep is about that feeling and trying to get to the other side of it, taking risks and finding freedom.
