Nothing short of a hitmaker!
From ‘Orange’ to ‘a million pieces’ to ‘feelings’, CLAY finds a way on all of our favorite music playlists with her incredible music. Her next project that will undoubtedly produce even more original bops is her upcoming EP ‘Waiting for God in the Garden’.
We had the amazing honor of speaking with CLAY about her favorite songs she’s released so far, her Spotify success, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
C: “I have been singing since before I was able to form a full sentence. The career part seemed like the only choice for me to stay true to that call.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Waiting for God in the Garden’
C: “I have always been on the outside looking in. Always felt like there was a language I didn’t speak, a secret code I never learned that somehow everyone else knew. I spent what felt like lifetimes in deep isolation and loneliness, hoping that one day, if I was good and kind and true and patient, I would find the happiness I so desperately sought. I would finally get to cross over to the land where my peers seemed to flourish. I spent all of my energy appeasing others, in a desperate attempt to be liked, perhaps if I was lucky, even loved. For many years, when nothing shifted and I continued to feel like an alien, I blamed myself. It had to be something wrong with me, what else could it possibly be?
Since my autism diagnosis, I have been slowly stripping back the layers of shame and blame that built up over the years. In this journey I have started to feel deserving of love and began to give myself the energy, care, and attention that I so readily and effortlessly give to others. I have begun to pour back into my own cup. For if I so wholeheartedly believe, as I do, that everyone on this earth is worthy of love, then why wouldn’t that include me?”
You have over 20 Million streams on Spotify! What has been your reaction to your success?
C: “I am just grateful that people resonate with my voice/songs/stories.”
If you had to choose, what is your favorite song you have released so far and why?
C: “It would probably be “Letting You Go” or “Sponge” because they are both songs that still feel tender to the touch. I also love my latest offering, “Waiting for God in the Garden,” as it shows me just how far I’ve come along my healing journey.”
You are going on tour! What are you most excited about?
C: “I am just excited to engage with the people who listen to my music in real life <3.”
Your last stop on the tour is your hometown, San Francisco! How does it feel to be able to perform at the place you grew up?
C: “I am so unbelievably excited to play in San Francisco and to get to play a stage that I’ve always dreamed of playing.”
We can’t wait for your upcoming EP! Can you tease what fans can expect from it?
C: “Upbeat, ethereal, and cathartic bops that might make you shed a lil tear or two.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
C: “On all socials 🙂 and my website iamclayofficial.com !!”
