An icon in the making!
With nearly 1 Million streams on just Spotify alone, Sydney Sherrill is quickly becoming an artist to add to your favorite playlist. Recently, we’ve been obsessed with her newest project ‘Young 17 And Stunning’, which is a 12-track album. We still have not decided our favorite song from it yet!
We had the amazing honor of speaking with Sydney about peace, her life motto, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
S: “Growing up, I always loved singing and I think it has always been where my heart is. As I got older and started to write my own music is when I think I really decided to put my all into it.”
What made you decide to mix your own personal experiences with fantasy?
S: “I think at the time I started writing, the songs were a form of expression but also a form of escapism. They’re all rooted in reality but I also got to make up stories inspired by my life or my friend’s life, which made it really fun. Now as I have gotten older, I have begun writing more true to reality because I think vulnerability is a strength and it’s still one I am growing. I also think it can be a fun mystery to listeners – what’s real and what isn’t quite.”
What was the inspiration behind your album 17 Young And Stunning?
S: “17 Young and Stunning is a collection of stories— real and fictional— inspired by my life and my friends‘ lives. Each song is a picture of our experiences or fantasized experiences.”
What do you hope to make people feel or think with your music?
S: “All I really want to do is return the favor of what music has brought me, which is a little closer to peace. I think that changes depending on the person and where they are in their lives. Sometimes a really raunchy or silly song can make you feel like the day is a little easier to pass through, or a sad song can make you feel a little less alone which ultimately brings you a little closer to your inner peace. I just think if any one of my songs can make people feel a little bit better and their day a little bit easier, I will have done my job.”
What are your future goals regarding your personal life and your professional life?
S: “I have so many professional goals! I want to get out there and write with more people and play gigs— my big goal is to play at a festival soon. I am working on new projects and continuing to find and develop my sound. As far as my personal life, I’m learning something new everyday and I just want to keep meeting new people and having new experiences!“
What is something you have learned from your experiences so far and will take with you throughout your career?
S: “Something I have loved about making music is that I get to make it with other people. I write the songs and the melodies, but when you’re making a track, I love seeing how everyone puts their own creativity into the song and it comes out even better than imagined. I think collaboration is one of the greatest parts about music and I think it’s definitely a huge thing I have learned so far.”
If you could describe your life motto in three words, what would it be?
S: “No-one can dull your sparkle (sorry I know that’s 5).”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
S: “On my social media! I love connecting with fans that way!” Instagram | TikTok | Facebook | YouTube | Website | Spotify
