We are already obsessed with her!
If you are looking for a sad pop girlie to add to your Spotify playlist, then Jenny Stenger is one of the first singers we would recommend, especially when it comes to her most recent single ‘Unlovable’.
We had the amazing honor of speaking with Jenny about her favorite song she’s released so far, her life motto, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
J: “I’ve always loved music and I’ve been singing my whole life, but I never thought I’d actually be able to pursue songwriting. When I was 18/19, I started writing just because I had something I wanted to sing about, instead of writing because I wanted to write a good song, which made me realize that I wanted to put my music out into the world and pursue it as a career.”
What was your favorite part of the process of making your new song “Unlovable”?
J: “I’m really lucky and got to make this song with my best friends. Brady Sossaman produced it, and he understands me so well and knew exactly how I wanted the song to sound. I also worked with Nick Hancock (banjo/accordion) and Seth Wentland (mixing), and they always bring my songs to life so perfectly and create such a fun atmosphere in the process.”
What is your favorite lyric from “Unlovable”?
J: “I think my favorite lyrics are, “Was I too boring, putting you to sleep? Or was I too much for you, you couldn’t keep up?” To me, those lyrics really capture the feeling of overanalyzing yourself and desperately trying to figure out what is wrong with you and why people aren’t choosing you.”
If you had to choose, what is your favorite song you have released so far and why?
J: “I think I’d have to go with “Rose Colored Lenses”. That song is really special to me because it talks about the fear and doubt we experience in the beginning stages of a meaningful relationship in a way that I feel like is kind of rare.”
Who would you love to collab on a song with?
J: “It would be a dream come true to collab with Gracie Abrams. She is one of my biggest inspirations and I love her songwriting so deeply. I also think we share a lot of feelings and views, so it would be easy to get on the same page.”
What is something you have learned from your experiences so far and will take with you throughout your career?
J: “I’ve learned to pursue things boldly and to go for opportunities that might feel like a long shot, because you never know what will work out for you.”
If you could describe your life motto in three words, what would it be?
J: “Keep it real! My transparency can be a blessing and a curse, but it’s still the one part of me I wouldn’t change. I think being genuine and raw is really important, not only in music but in life.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
J: “I’m on Instagram @JennyStenger, and on TikTok @jenny.stenger!”
