Is there anything he can’t do?
After rising to fame in some of the biggest TV shows & movies over the past few years, Asher Angel is pursuing his music career more and more. He recently released a single titled ‘Flip The Switch’. Spoiler alert: it’s a bop.
We had the amazing honor of speaking with Asher about Chris Brown, going back to musical theater, and more!
When did you realize that you wanted to pursue a music career in addition to your acting stardom?
A: “I started doing music theater at a young age and that’s really where I found my love for the arts. I knew pretty early on in my career that music was something I was passionate about and also something I wanted to pursue. It just so happened that my journey started with acting. Even when I was filming and making movies, I was always making music in my spare time and pursuing that as well.”
Tell us more about your amazing new single ‘Flip The Switch’.
A: “I’ve been constantly in the studio for the last two years and in artist development mode with my incredible team. I feel like I’m finally making the music that I’ve always wanted to make. “Flip The Switch” is a song about being confident and feeling comfortable in your own skin. There’s a lot of negativity on social media and in the world, and it can take a toll on your mental health. But, I finally decided to flip the switch on all of that and not listen to the haters and the doubters. “Flip The Switch” is all about highlighting the positives.”
‘Flip The Switch’ shows so much growth from the music you released as a teenager (We are still obsessed with Getaway, btw). Do you still enjoy your earlier releases or are you not fond of those singles?
A: “I’m always thankful for my past experiences. All of those experiences are stepping stones or puzzle pieces in my journey. I’m forever grateful for that and I would never want to diminish that. It shows the evolution of who I am as a person and an artist.”
If you had to choose, which is your favorite song you have released thus far and why?
A: “Flip The Switch” is definitely my favorite release thus far! It’s the beginning of a new era of music from me. I can’t wait for all of my fans and supporters to hear everything else I’ve been working on all this time too!”
Who do you credit as some of your biggest music inspirations?
A: “I’ve always looked up to artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Frank Sinatra. They inspired me to pick up an instrument for the first time and start making music.”
You’ve worked with everyone from Wiz Khalifa to CMC$. Who would you love to collaborate with next?
A: “I would love to collaborate with Chris Brown! He is so musically gifted. I’ve been watching his journey since I was little and he just seems so genuine.”
You can sing, dance, and act! Do you think you would ever take on something that utilizes all of your talents, like Broadway or a movie musical?
A: “Who knows what the future holds! I would definitely be interested in returning to my musical theater roots. I love doing projects that incorporate acting and music.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
A: “Yes! You can follow me by looking up Asher Angel on most platforms. I’m forever grateful for all my fans who follow along!“
