The definition of a jack of all trades!
Don McLeod has managed to become a star in every aspect of entertainment, from songwriting to acting. His new pursuit is in screenwriting and we can’t wait to see his upcoming projects.
We had the amazing honor of speaking with Don about, advice for people who want to pursue a career in entertainment, and more!
What do you love the most about the entertainment industry?
D: “I like that no two days are ever the same and I get to meet new people to create with.”
You have had so many acting roles that it’s been hard to keep track! If you had to choose, what has been your favorite acting experience so far and why?
D: “I have a lot of great memories on set, including goofing around with Shannen Doherty during a scene. BUT My favorite time on set was when Jesse Hutch and I were filming the “Proof-of-Concept” for a series we created called “Fox and Hunter”. I enjoy filming action scenes and blowing up a minivan was awesome!”
We hear that you have not one but two projects in development this year that you co-wrote! Can you tease what they are about?
D: “Actually, Jesse Hutch and I have many more but we have two that will hopefully start production soon. Can’t say much about “Christmas Cab Ride” other than it is a really fun romantic comedy. But …
FOX AND HUNTER is a Comedy Drama with Action. It leans on quick-witted dialogue, and grounded character humour, while adding just enough heart and edge to make it familiar and exciting. We follow the daily life of high-energy BLAKE FOX (Jesse Hutch), and his veteran partner JOHN HUNTER (Don McLeod), along with a full undercover unit as they are repeatedly detoured from their work by discussions, explosions, foot races, car chases, personal issues and evidence.”
If you had to choose, what is your guilty pleasure movie or TV show? (and no, you can’t choose something you’ve been in).
D: “Guilty Pleasure. What a funny phrase when you think about it. I don’t feel guilty when I enjoy a film. That said, I like the early Indiana Jones, Lethal Weapons, Bad Boys, and most Bruce Willis and Jason Statham movies and…. Yes…. I like a well-written romantic comedy. Like Love Actually or Shakespeare in Love.”
Is it easier to work on music for yourself rather than when you work on music for fellow artists?
D: “It depends on my mood. If I’m writing freely and no one is around the song can come out smoothly and quickly because I know how I feel or how I want the song to feel. When I write for or with others, sometimes it can flow just as easy which is amazing! Other times it takes some conversations to find the feeling everyone is after. Either way I enjoy the process.”
From singing to acting to screenwriting, you are a man of many talents. Just to make us less inferior, what is something you aren’t good at?
D: “LOL I hope you don’t feel inferior. Everyone has talent that can be a gift to others. There are many things I’m not good at: drawing, sculpting, decorating, underwater basket weaving.”
What is your best piece of advice for people who want to pursue the entertainment industry but don’t know where to start?
D: “Know why YOU want to pursue it. Be honest with yourself. Do you REALLY want it or does it just look attractive when you see someone who is already successful at it? Then be honest with yourself and ask “Am I any good at it?” If you’ve asked those questions and you’re satisfied moving forward, go find people doing what you want to do and ask them what it REALLY looks like to do the job day in day out. After that, if you still wanna pursue it. Get in there!”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
