She’s such an amazing dancer!
From dancing in some of our favorite TV shows, to being a choreographer for some iconic music videos, Justine Gera is a star in the entertainment industry.
We had the amazing honor of talking with Justine about her passion for fashion, her goals for her career, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a professional career in dance?
J: “I always took it very seriously and it never felt like just a hobby. But, I would say around 15-16 years old is when there was no question that’s that what I wanted to do as a career!”
If you had to choose, what is your favorite style of dance and why?
J: “It’s hard to really choose an ultimate favorite, however you can always find me choreographing or in a commercial jazz funk class. I love dancing to upbeat music and hitting a clean step!”
You have danced in several TV shows! What is that experience dancing on a set like?
J: “Dancing on set for film/tv is honestly great. In my experience you either have a lot of downtime until you are actually used or you are used all day. It just depends on the flow of the shoot schedule and I have never had a bad experience! Its always amazing to see the work you do in rehearsals and on set transpire to TV! I am very grateful for all of the film & tv opportunities that have come to me!”
You are a choreographer as well! Which music artist would you love to work with?
J: “I would absolutely love to work with Miley Cyrus. I have always been a fan of hers, but I am really intrigued by the art she is putting out more recently. I like to work with people that are not afraid to take risks and have fun. Professional – yet human. She seems like the perfect combination of that.”
What is your best piece of advice for aspiring young dancers?
J: “I get a lot of young dancers asking me questions about LA! And I would encourage everyone to go for it if that’s what you want, but I would also encourage them to try other places too! There are so many avenues for dancers and to make a move like this is huge so always weigh out your options and see where you gravitate to.”
You are also a stylist! What do you love the most about the world of fashion?
J: “I actually went to school for fashion back in Canada before moving to LA and I always knew that it was going to be a part of my life. I really enjoy styling shoots, creating custom looks, and collaborating with other stylists or creatives. I am obsessed with fashion and I often go to art museums and exhibits to gain inspiration. I have always been someone who doesn’t want to confine or look like everyone else – and fashion was always a big part of my journey in finding who I am.”
What are some of your biggest goals for your career?
J: “I have so many goals!! I would love to choreograph for film and television. I am working towards that currently with personal projects showcasing that skill. It would be amazing to have work that I created live on film forever! I also would love to be involved in either a residency, festival, or tour for an artist. I would love to dance, but also open to the creative side as well!”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
J: “You can follow me on instagram @justinegera and www.justine-gera.com.”
