A talent way beyond his years!
Only 18 years old, singer-songwriter Drew Pulliam has to be added to your favorite Spotify playlist. He recently released his debut EP ’16 Going On 60′. And we personally can’t choose our favorite track!
We had the amazing honor of talking with Drew about the music scene in Arkansas, and more!
When did you first realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
D: “I’ve sorta always had this connection to music. I mean growing up in the theater helped foster that growth, but it goes deeper than that. Before I could even talk, my mom said I would hum along to the roar of the vacuum cleaner or buzz of the dishwasher. I started matching pitch with things before I started talking. So a career in music has always seemed right for me.”
Tell us more about your amazing new EP ‘16 Going On 60’.
D: “I’m flattered that you think it’s amazing. It’s been a learning process, and I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s a compilation of stories I’ve heard and thought about in my life.”
If you had to choose, what is your favorite song off of the EP and why?
D: “January” because I like the harmonies.”
What is your songwriting process usually like?
D: “It changes every time, but I really like to come up with some sort of riff on the keys or the guitar, then go from there with a melody and lyrics.”
How would you personally describe the music scene in Arkansas?
D: “There’s a lot of talented folks in Arkansas. Many of them here in Jonesboro have written and performed some beautiful stuff. Several have also helped me along the way by offering to share the stage with me when I was younger or giving me a chance to play in different venues.”
What do you love about performing live?
D: “I love playing with other people live, and also the electricity that happens with an audience when they’re engaged with me and the music. That feeling – well there’s nothing like it.”
We love listening to your covers! Which has been your favorite song to cover and why?
D: “James Taylor’s “Carolina in My Mind” because it’s a fun one to pick.”
Where can we follow your amazing journey?
D: “Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and my official website for more.”
